I love FTLOP so much. I am on Chapter four of Brian and Pete. I CAN'T STOP READING! This is the first gay love story I have ever read. I think it is very unique. I really cannot put these stories out of my head. When I am not at home at my computer, I print out the next chapter so I can read it while I am at work on break. I have to say, that this series is one of the best I have ever read. Counting published, popular, books. Don't EVER stop writing! I want to see FTLOP in stores where I can buy my very own copy! You're the best! You really are showing people who wouldn't otherwise know, that being gay isn't just about sex, that they really LOVE eachother, and I think that is WONDERFUL.

After many years of reading online, following FTOLP, B&P, and now Brian's Destruction, I decided it was time to break my silence and let you know just how indebted I feel for having the honor of reading these great stories. Not only have these stories provided refuge during some of my own crises, they've also given me new perspectives to draw on in dealing with them. Rest assured that you are one of a precious few that never fail to keep me enthralled when you set words to print. The storyline, depth of character and range of emotions leave me hanging on every word.
With my recent discovery of Drake's site and the knowledge of your collaboration, I'm almost giddy with anticipation of upcoming installments! Y'all keep up the good works!
Words defy me to convey the gratitude I feel toward you Dewey, so I guess a heartfelt "THANKS!" is all I can offer.

FTLOP was the first gay teen love story i've ever read. Every word of it is greatly written. Words can not express how much this story has touched my heart. I will forever remember For the Love of Pete as the greatest story i have ever read. I only hope the story i am writing is a fraction as powerful as this story has been in my life.
I happen to know another author, so wonderful a writer he is, but he fails to see the true beauty of his work. I think he is a fool, because his passion for his work shows plain as day. I told him once, that if you can touch just one person's heart, then your story is a success. That is my own feeling on the subject.
Dewey, your story was the first story to touch my heart, first to make me have hope, the first to make me break down and cry, the first to make me smile and laugh. No words....

i stumbled across FTLOP & B&P in november on nifty. and in that time, i read it completly at least 6 times , and bounced around tha chapters many more times.

reading this story brough out so many things i thought i'd never see, things i locked away many years ago, that they came back in a rush, it was hard to think or do anything (let alone, making my job damn near impossiable)

you see, i've put too much time into my work and hobbies, that i forgot, until recently, i've been missing. what i've been missing, that makes everything else trivial, is a relationship. and that's what hurt the most.

i just want to thank everyone involved with this story for helping me find the one thing i really want. ( haven't found, yet. still looking for the light at the end of the tunnel)

and as of recently, i didn't realize this place existed. i just finished ch17 which was just posted on nifty, when i cought the link at the bottom of the story, followed it, and WOW, i got a late christmas present ch 18,19,20!!!

you got another supporter here!!

The thread below (at least I hope it is still below) had touched upon some incredibly important issues. There is one facet, however, that had gone unsaid, and it must be addressed.

For the Love of Pete and Brian and Pete have a theme in them that I have latched onto quite intensely. To put it simply: Trust. The ability to find and maintain honest and open trust with people is a singularly crucial detail in life (as well as in the stories). We are nothing without other people. We find those with whom we have a likened mindset. We slowly reveal what and who we are to them as time goes along. We depend on the sacrosanct concept of trust to protect us in our dealings with others. We are instilled with an instinct to trust other people. However, life can and does trash that concept as we grow older. It is vital that we retain some measure of our capacity to trust as we grow up and older.

Brian was the victim of having lost his innate sense of trust in people because he believed his parents betrayed him. Without it, he wandered through life as a wounded person isolated from the very emotion of love and the ability to understand his place in the world. How many of us can raise our hands and say we keenly remember a time when we felt the exact same way? Many if not all of us. The need to trust in others is a stabilizing force in our lives. It gives a real sense of constancy and continuity in our interactions with others. The world seems less hostile and threatening when we know we have a safe harbor from the storm that life sometimes is, and that harbor is other people. We anchor ourselves to others and, in turn, offer the same refuge. Anything that threatens or strips away our trust in people brings out the worst, ferral nature in human beings. Sometimes it is directed at the world, and sometimes it becomes so internalized that it is self-destructive.

I have been fortunate in my life that I have known people whom I trust implicitly. One of them was taken from me through the destruction of his mind. I grieve over that loss to this day. Another person, after waiting years with my longing for that vital human connection, has come along slipped into that spot. There is not a day that goes by where I do not thank my fortune for having discovered this person. It has brought a sense of safety and security in my life that I craved.

Dewey and I started out with an interest in writing. I spun off a story from FTLOP and B&P. What I got was someone who became a very good friend. Time graced us even more, and he became my best friend. It did not end there. There is no distinction in my mind between Dewey and family. He is my brother in every real sense. He has become my family. His family is now part of my own. I love him, his wife, and his children with an incredible fierceness. I trust in him because I know my life is secure in his hands and, as such, I would gladly sacrifice my life for his. I would not even have to think about it.

It's about trust and love, people. At the heart of all we do, and I firmly believe this, is a search for those with whom we can connect with utter assuredness. The first step is always trust. If you are honest and sincere in what you offer, it will be returned to you. This is not to imply that you simply go about instilling your trust in anyone. Some modicum of rational thought is required. However, once you know you have found it, give into it entirely. Your humanity, all of our humanity, lies within that power. It is what makes us truly alive. It is what makes us all the same.

Dewey, I love you beyond doubt and question. You are my brother.

When you think you have things figured out, think again. It's been six years since the events that altered my life occurred, and it still affects the way I live every single moment of my life. Every facet of my relationship with Pete has been built on what happened during those four days in June of Nineteen-Ninety-Six and the aftermath of his departure from my life.

Therapy has proven to be very helpful, but like anything, you get out of it what you put into it. When I first visited Will, I was skeptical as to what he would be able to do for me. It took me two years of semi-regular appointments to realize therapy isn't about what he could do for me, but rather what I could do for myself. A therapist-one who truly understands the purpose of therapy- is nothing more than a catalyst for the entire healing process.

When Pete left, I was twelve years old. Now, at eighteen, I can look back and see what a traumatic experience it was and how far-reaching it's effects are on me. Age brings wisdom, or so says the old adage. I'm not certain wisdom is what I've gained in the years since everything happened, but I do know one thing for certain: nothing is ever over. The experiences we have shape the person we are in this moment and for the future, for better or worse. All we can do is hope that the events in our lives lead us in a direction that will prepare us for what is to come and give us some happiness, for life is never static. The landscape is constantly changing, and if all we do is look behind us, we won't see the chasm ahead until it's too late.

What follows is something I've never discussed in any detail, not even with Pete. Events occurred when I lived with Kathlene and Chris Forn that still haunt me. I don't like to think about them, and I have done my best to forget them. Will said, however, that until "they see the light of day" they will continue to affect my present. I write these papers at his urging and against my better judgment. It's good that I have no commitments over the next two months, because it is very likely I will not be in a condition to meet any kind of obligations.

Even the thought of writing the events that occurred fills me with dread. It's fortunate that I have the support and love of my boyfriend and family to keep me safe as I walk the minefield that is my past.

Some of this may seem similar to what I have written before, but I must confess some intentional inaccuracies were introduced into the previous edition of these events. I did so in an effort to sanitize my time with the Forns for the benefit of anyone who read it. Now, at this point in my recovery, it is time to tell the truth about my time with Chris and Kathlene. I apologize in advance to everyone around me as I write this, for I know that their lives are about to be disrupted by my problems yet again.

A few weeks ago, when I first arrived here at deweywriter.co, I was raw with the emotions of having just read, For the Love of Pete, and, Brian and Pete. To write that I was profoundly moved by the stories only begins to express the enormity of what I was processing. Quite frankly the experience was painful.

Recent events in my life had hardened me enough to lose sight of what had always been so paramount to me: a passionate belief in the importance of being open to our feelings and a deep respect for the power of love.

I cried for my loss of innocence, and I cried for having found it again.

I first came here because I wanted in some way to give back to the author who so deeply touched me. I wanted to thank him, and in doing so, hopefully reaffirm his own process for writing such intimate, vulnerable work.

What I found here shouldn’t have surprised me, but it did: a community, a family. And, quite frankly I was overwhelmed. Like in the story, when the boys each come to meet the Patterson family, I should have felt welcome and have known that I was safe. My own fears kept me from that sense of security. (You are all a formidable lot.)

But, I was curious, so I wrote an email to Dewey, I signed The Guest Book, and I offered a message on the Message Board. Dewey wrote me back answering some of my questions as to the ‘factual’ nature of the stories. His insight into his own process was quite helpful in calming down my rather upset and hurt inner child. (I still hadn’t stopped crying. It was quite embarrassing finding myself on the train teary eyed as I replayed several scenes from the stories over-and-over in my head.)

Dewey writes in the foreword of, Brian’s Destruction, “If there is anything I emphasize in the Brian and Pete series, it is this: don’t be afraid to express your emotions.” For me, equally important is the romantic vision of unconditional love. I am so afraid for Brian and Pete, and therefore vicariously, I am afraid for myself. Watching them love each other leaves me feeling so alive – filled with possibility – and yet, terribly frightened and vulnerable. It is hard to trust, but I trust them, and it is somewhere in the complexity of these emotions that I have spent hours crying and contemplating Dewey’s story, and its impact on my life.

In reading the Message Board, I came across a message posted by Dewey asking for input from his reader as to how they saw Brian and Pete. I wanted to reply, but didn’t at first. (In fact, this post is my reply.)

In the email Dewey wrote me, he wrote, “Brian and Pete are fictional characters loosely based on different aspects of who I was at the time I wrote the first chapter of FTLOP. Brian is really who I thought I was, and Pete was a more noble persona, who I would have liked to have been. Their maturation through the story roughly tracks my emotional maturation as I learned who I really am.”

What I came to realize about my own process was how hurt I had become – disillusioned – by my own and my friend’s failed relationships. For you see, I am first and foremost a romantic. I grew up so wanting to believe I would share my life with my soul mate. I was weaned on fairytales and Hollywood movies. I was – still am – a true believer. I desperately wanted to find my white knight. What I found, in that desperation, was disappointment.

So, I cried for what Brian and Pete had and I didn’t. I cried for the ideal of love and the sad truth that I had begun to lose faith.

What Dewey’s email taught me – reinforced in me – was that we all the chance to find our soul mate, for we all can grow to love and trust ourselves.

Yes, of course, I am still thrilled at the romantic love that Brian and Pete share, and hope that perhaps I too will find someone to share my life with. However, whether or not that is to be my fate, I know I share my life with myself. I will… no, I am becoming whole. And, as Dewey wrote, it is in allowing ourselves our emotions that we achieve peace.

P.S. Tomorrow, I am off to the Berlin Film Festival and won't have access to the Internet. If anyone comments, I won't be able to respond until after 17 February.

Just returned from Berlin and the 53 Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival). Wow! The festival was great! Many of the films brilliant. I was extremely impressed with the enormity and diversity of the lesbian, gay and transgender offerings. A large section of the festival is dedicated to new lesbian, gay and transgender films. In 10 days I saw over 50 films and over half of them were about our issues. Way cool!

I missed you guys though. Was hoping to return to a new chapter, but I can be patient.

Well, I'm late again as usual reading the latest chapter. Once again, I'm not disappointed. And as always, it's better than the last. From the first chapter of FTLOP they have all
been excellent. Can't help myself, every now and then I have to jump back to the early chapters and remember where it all started. Just one question, when is the movie due for release? Your fortune would be guaranteed! Big pat on the back or a good ol' fashioned back rub instead.

I have just spent the weekend reading "for the love of pete" and "brian and pete." I found the stories on "nifty archive" and followed the url here.

Wow. It seems that there is a huge culture following these stories. I had no idea.

I guess it will come as no surprise to most of you that this weekend was a rough emotional ride. The stories have touched me personally and deeply. I can't remember letting go and crying that hard in years. I have been sobbing on and off for 3 days now. I am provoked. I am moved. I am touched. I am impressed.

To the author, thank you. Thank you. I don't quite know what is or isn't true. Maybe that doesn't matter. I do know that you have created a wonderful, powerful novel. If you are Brian, or more aptly, if Brian is based on you, than know you are extremely important. You have the power to reach into my heart and make me question the meaning of life and love.

I just found "For the Love of Pete" and "Brian & Pete" this weekend. I haven't read anything that original or that yielded as many emotions from me in a long time.

One thing of note that seperates your story from those found on the nifty archive. Your story is believable. You represent real human emotion and drama as opposed to stories that gloss over real life by having people be millionaires or having catastrophic illnesses overtake the principle characters frequently to bring them to an emotional bonding.

Great job Dewey!!!

I started reading For The Love Of Pete a few years ago.
Found this site a few months back and BOY am I glad I did.

The story is so well written. I feel the emotions, I practically cried with them each time. This story touches me so deeply I can't fully explain it all.

I'm sure my words are not at all unique on this board since this story must be loved by many. I felt an urge to add my thoughts and to share with others. Something I can't do in my real life.

I'll be back to the board every so often and will start reading some of the posts.

I just read the story "Jeremy", one of the short stories on this site. I was totally shocked when reading it. When story came to its peak (near the end when Jeremy... you know what I mean if you've read it) I even let out a "ugh" because I was so grossed by the thought. I felt sad for Jeremy and Paul that something like that happened.

My question is, is this fiction or non-fiction? I know something like this happens in real life too but a feeling tells me I have to know if it's a real story or not.

Also this story was one-to-read. A very good, emotional story that makes you want to change your mind on things and help others. I just feel sad for all who go through this and eventually do the same. What a waste of life... :-(

I'm fairly new to the site, because I've been reading "For The Love Of Pete" and "Briand and Pete" from Nifty.org, where I (thank-God) found the URL to this site. Since I came on this site for the first time yesterday, I've been aching to put someting in this forum. But I never got grip of what I wanted to write, ideas were floating through my head. Even nog, just moments ago I had a clear idea as to what I was going to tell, but it went blur. And now I feel like ereasing this because I'm wandering about nothing... *thinks*... *thinks more* ...

I guess I just wanted to say my feelings, that the stories truely touched them. It gave me another, seemingly better view on the world: the people who live on it. It gave me the meaning of the word "love" and "real friendship" and after comparing those words as to what I see nowadays, I've none. I do have friends... but not as in the story, the true friendship. The story made me cry softly numerous times (even now thinking about it makes it hard not to). I laughed when they joked and so... This is with no doubt the most real story I've ever read. Thank God I never read sex-only-stories, other wise I would never found this one which touched the very core of my life: my heart.

Dewey, Dwayne, or whatever your name is. I feel like I know you a bit after reading this story. Frankly, I'm getting scared the story might some day end and I don't want that to happen. :~( Good luck writing.

Just for the record, I'm from Belgium, 17 years old, gay (or at least bisexual) and aching for which I don't have: true friendship and love... :-(

I’m simply disgusted and sick to my stomach right now. I just stumbled across this web site: www.godhatesfags.com I can’t believe that they can call them selves Christians and say the thing they do. They even have a counter that tells the number of days that Matthew Shepard has been in Hell. It’s people like this that are fueling hate, and in the name of God. They are truly the one’s whom should be worrying about where their souls “will” be spending eternity. They use parts of Bible verses combined with other verses to convey their point. I warn you this site is not for the faint of heart; it really tore me up. I would suggest that you first visit www.members.aol.com/gunnyding/christ.htm and get a less bias opinion (just do your self-a favor and run to the bottom of each page and turn off the music). Read it ALL it’s truly insightful. The site appears to be well researched and can be very confronting if you’re having trouble dealing with your sexuality. Also, never take ANYONE’S opinion to be fact (especially on religion). Use their opinions as a basis for your own research to form your own opinions. You have to under stand that you can use a 3000 year old text that has been translated and rewritten so many times to say, or make whatever point you want.

Just a thought or my two cence anyways. I was sitting at home reading the message board and it came to me. Dewey, you and Drake seem to be in the same situation. You both have jobs outside of writing. This leves both of you little time to write let alone keep up regular maintance on the web sites. Nothing against either one of them. I came up with a merger of the two sites. The two of you are realy close friends, you work together on your stories, it olny seems natural to have 1 great site, with 2 great writers behind it all. So I figure it would be a better site for us, yet less work for both of you to do.
Well that's just my thought and mine alone.

Hello everyone!

I've been keeping up with Brian and Pete since it was FTLOP on nifty. I've always enjoyed it, and am very appreciative of the work that Dewey puts into it.

I've been really busy lately starting college and all, and havn't been to the site in about 2 months.

I finally decided to visit again today, and seen a new chapter of Heaven's Wrath was posted, which is also an incredible story that I am really looking forward to.

I started on FHO a while ago, but havn't had time to get back to it, but also enjoy reading Drake's writing.

Well I'm just saying hello and all, and plan on being active around this neck of the woods.

The Klez virus is making rounds again. I got an infected email for The Eggman. This was not done maliciously on his part. The Klez "spoofs" emails. Thus, some of you might have gotten it from me; however, I had internet access cut off when I opened it. I opened it to get the virus pattern file. Scan any and all attachments that you receive for a while. You can get a cleaning utility from the following web site:

You may need to run one or more of the cleaners to get it all out of your computer system.

I tried to post this before. . . not sure what happened, but. . . After about two weeks of reading every night I've been able to catch up on all of Brian and Pete's story and I just finished reading the chapters of Heaven's Wrath. I want to say how much I enjoy the stories and that I would like to become aquainted with the community here. Also, in regards to Heaven's Wrath - I was wondering if this story gets its basis from the upcoming game Planetside. (The planet sounds very similar and there are three main groups in the game - the Terran Republic who colonized the planet, the New Conglomerate who want freedom from the republic, and the Vanu Sovergnty who base their society around the alien technology found on the planet.) Maybe it's a long shot but I had to ask.

Well, I guess it has been a while. As I scan the message board's archieves I notice the last time I posted was Feb 26, 2001. Can you believe that? I have turned into a lurker. Oh the horror of it all.

I have been really busy in real life here but have managed to stay current with all of my online stories (To bad I can't say that about my online friends, sorry guys) I will say I have turned into a real ... a real... is the word i am looking for recluse? or is it antisocial? I never turn on my ICQ or AOL IM. I even have the ringer on my phone turned off most of the time. I guess that is what you do when you are busy outside of the home, I just want to be undisturbed when home.

Hey Bubba, great work on the site. Can I suggest maybe alittle more color on the home page? Maybe a little something in a green bathing suit?

Dewey, I just reread the first chapter you wrote and laughed so hard!! YOur writing has come a long way. I like the latest chapter with the girls it was great to see the boys hit on by girls but even better to have the finall word with those SOB's.

i decided to come to this website months after first reading For the Love of Pete on Nifty, and im glad i did. the new chapters were really good, and i enjoyed each one. thanks to Dewey for keeping a good story going. im a psuedo-author myself, having recently just began a story on Nifty, and this story partially inspired me to start. so thanks Dewey, and keep it up...the good work i mean..smile

Hey...

Been offline for something like 3 months, talk about a living hell... never try moving to a new house in this country, the telecoms guys need a quarter of a year and a couple of hundred euros before they even raise a finger to help...

Anyway, so one of the first things I did upon getting back online was to check out what Brian and Pete have been up to in my absence - what else?! :-) The recent updates are great stuff (like anyone reading this board is gonna disagree... heh) and, ya know, what they say about absence making the heart grow stronger is so true - I mean not only was it great to be reading this stuff again, but I now have the urge to go and re-read the whole damn saga right from the beginning... guess I'd better set aside an evening some weekend soon and get a couple of bottles of the red stuff in! :-)

Well I am finally doing it...Broken Facades and The Journal was be shot this Fall in NC. I am going to do 2 shorts, One based on Broken Facades Chapters 3-5 and One on The Journal's Chapter 0-2...I should have the Screenplay completed by the end of the week. I have already posted on One web site for actors and will start scheduled auditions next week...Man I am so stoked...Wish me luck...

I have never read a gay love story before, but reading the Pete and Brian Story has been amazing!! I live in a severly homo-phob "burb"... I have never really had any experience of what a REAL gay teen goeas through, this story may be fictional, but it has brought me a sense of reality of how hard it is for gay people to deal with thier sexuality!! THe first time I had ever been introduced to any REAL gay entertainment was on Showtime's Queer as Folk. Now, as I read this story, I'm no longer just entertained... I am appreciative. This story has changed me from just another straight, white, female, who defends comments on nationality to a person who will defend ANYONE no matter WHAT!! Greetings folks,

Yes, it's me! I just got back to the face of the earth!

I've been very busy with my family over the last eight weeks, having welcomed a new daughter into the world. Other things have been occurring in my life as well. I have a new job (again). I've also still been working on getting FTLOP ready for publication, but it's not as simple as I thought.

I've been working with a guy (Hi Drake!) on a collaborative effort and it's going wonderfully! He's taught me so much about writing that I can't believe it!

Drake is working on a story based on one of the characters from FTLOP & B&P. Some of you might remember him, others of you will need to look him up. Remember FTLOP Chapter Eight? Brian took refuge at a friend's house. His name is Chris. For some odd reason, Drake asked if he could take Chris and make him his own story, and I agreed.

The title of the story is "Finding His Own". I was skeptical at first, but he quickly convinced me it was the best decision I had ever made regarding my writing (other than starting to write in the first place).

Not only is Drake a great writer, he's prolific as well. By the time FHO is complete, it will span over FIFTY chapters! So, when we get ready to open it up, you'll all have a LOT of reading to do!

Before you think you can skip this story, think again. This story and author have had a profound impact on the way I write. My eyes have been opened, as they say. If you liked Brian and Pete, you'll love FHO too. Trust me!

Anyway, during my editing of FTLOP, I have decided that Chapter Eight packed too much into one chapter, soooo....

I'm breaking it down into separate chapters. I'm much happier with the way it's turning out than I ever was with the original. Sorry to say, however, that you're going to have to wait for a while to see them.

Chapter Eighteen will be posted in due course. I haven't forgotten about HW either!

All of you can chill- I'm still alive and still writing :)

I hope all is going well with the baby...have helped raise my sister's kids a set of twin girls from 1 day olds to 13 year olds and her two boys a 1 year old and a 5 year old, as well as being a nanny for 5 years, and a soccer coach for 15 years for boys ages 9-19 and now helping a friend raise her 4 year old and one year old, if you need some advice just drop me an email...but back to the reason for this post...Where HR...Grrrrrr....I am going crazy...lol...oh well seriously if you have any questions or just need a to talk to a guy that has been there and loved it email me...and yes I am gay, Archer asked a question in on of his stories one time, and that was do gay men have as strong a Paternal need as St8 men, well I cant speek for all gay men but mine is very strong....I love my kids and can't wait to have or adopt....Well talk to you later...

Loved new HW chapter... Wonderful as usual! Was not expecting most of the events that took place. B&P will be up by around the 26th? Hope so!

Happy Happy Happy Birthday....well I just wanted to get an early start...I'll be the big 3 4 on Sunday...hmmmm...laid up in bed from have the tumor removed...quite painful...can't move horny as hell....what a great way to spend ones birthday.....:(...well at least I can look forward to gay days at the end of the month....by the way, guys we have got to meet I am going to beach ball Friday night and spend the whole day park hopping...I'm getting a four day pass...$100 smackers...I don't think I will ever give up me Florida residency...lol...lol

Hey gang,

I just thought it would be nice if I let you know about my "schedule" for publishing chapters.

Sometimes, I get on a roll and can pump out a chapter in a week, and other times I don't even feel like writing for a month or more. So, to keep things on a even keel, so there are no "famines", I try to put out one chapter in each story a month, splitting HW and B&P, so you get a chapter every 14 days or so.

Not only does this keep you guys entertained, but it keeps the pressure off of me, and keeps the writing fun, instead of it just being another job to dread.

I know you guys don't want to hear that, but that's the way it has to be. So suck it up! ;)

In any case, Chapter 15 of B&P will hopefully be up Friday night, the 26th, provided Bubba has time to post it.

In April, we had only on occurance where we exceded our allotted bandwidth. If anyone is having any problems, please let me know. At this time, I am going to stick with the free service, and I'm not going to expand the bandwidth or storage space.

Also, I think I fixed all the links and animations today, but if you find any that are not working, please let me know.
