Auron sighed. There was no point in denying it. He'd find out sooner or later anyway. "When I was still a boy... about ten years older than your body is right now... I died. Lady Yunalesca..."
"Why didn't you tell me?!" Aurie screamed at him.
Auron hung his head. He knew that Aurie was right. He should have told him. After all, he was him. "It... wasn't important," he said finally.
"Wasn't important?! You're DEAD!" Aurie paused for a second, confused. "Wait... if you're dead, how can you still be here?"
"I wasn't sent," Auron said simply.
"Why don't you get sent then?"
Auron shook his head. "No. I don't belong there in the Farplane."
"Obviously you do, since you're dead and all. Plus, it doesn't exactly do us any good to have a dead guy on our side!"
"There are advantages to being dead," Auron said, almost like an advertisement for becoming dead.
"Auron..." Yuna said softly. She could tell how much this was hurting Aurie. "Don't."
"Why?" Auron said bluntly. "Do I have to lie, just to spare someone's feelings? Just because I might not say it doesn't mean that it's not true."
"Hey guys... Look." Tidus said, distracting everyone. He had walked a little farther ahead of the group and was looking into a clearing. He pointed into the empty clearing.
"There's nothing there..." Rikku said slowly, looking at Tidus as if he had grown an extra head. "Why are you pointing at it?"
He stared at her. "What are you talking about? Don't... don't you see it?"
"No."
"But... but it's right in clear sight!" Tidus looked around at them all. "Don't any of you see it?"
"We can't see it, Tidus," Auron said, stepping forward. "But what is it you see?"
"I... I don't know," Tidus said. "I thought that one of you would know."
Yuna's eyes widened. "Wait..."
"What is it?" Rikku asked.
Yuna turned to Tidus. "Do you remember that one day when I was just messing around with my magic... dangerous, I know, but... remember when I put a spell on you, and you said that you could see things that I couldn't?"
Tidus nodded slowly. "Yeah... but what does that have to do with this?"
"I found out later what that spell really did to a person." She shook her head. "If I would've known, I would never have put it on you."
"Why? What does it do?" Tidus asked.
Yuna said slowly, "You can see what no human should be forced to see."
Lulu gasped. "You don't mean...?"
"Yes," Yuna said. "I do mean the Pyrefly Ziel."
