The buzzer rang for halftime just as Wakka scored a spectacular goal to tie the game. "Locker rooms!" he told his teammates once they were out of the water.
Before they could get there, however, a person from the crowd jerked Wakka away from his team. "Hey, whatcha doin'?" he exclaimed. He tried to break the grip on his arm, but it was too strong for him.
"Look," said a voice. It sounded strangely familiar, but Wakka couldn't tell who was beneath the hooded cloak. "You can't win this game."
"What are you talking about? We've just tied! The Aurochs actually have a chance now!"
"Wakka, I know you don't understand this now, but you just can't win this game. You don't know what it might lead to," the stranger said.
Wakka crossed his arms. "What do you know of the future?"
The person took off their hood.
Wakka nearly jumped out of his skin. "Mikoto?! What in the devil are you doing here?"
"I was sent here by Areo," she said simply.
"What?! But how--"
"There's no time to explain, Wakka. All you need to do is make sure that you guys lose. You can't win this. If you do... it'll be hell to pay."
With those words ringing in his ears, Wakka slowly trudged into the locker room. His teammates looked expectantly up at him. Hope was shining in their faces. "Okay, guys, here's the plan... Let's just... lay off a little bit."
"What?!" Letty leapt into his feet in outrage. "We're playing against the Goers, Wakka, the best in the league! What are you thinking?"
"I don't know..." Wakka suddenly felt very stupid. How would Mikoto know anything anyway? he reasoned to himself. It's not like she can know the future or anything. He grinned. "I was just kidding, guys. Give it your all. Let's win this thing!!"
