  • I'm inclined to agree with your view. I think he was sold a dream by the people at Birmingham City, and it looks like it has worked. Look at the crowds they are getting. I think Stansfield thrives on the adolation. He got that to the lesser extent at Exeter City. He obviously didn't think that would happen at Fulham for sometime.   • Kid had his father die, a lower-league footballer, when he was young. He was offered a 7 year, 45k a week contract. More than 16m total guaranteed earnings at a club that loves him, is being bankrolled for a quick push up the leagues and is the main club in England's 2nd city. I don't think that's got anything to do with a lack of belief in himself.       • I am absolutely saying that his personal history likely makes him predisposed to that kind of security for him (and probably his family) in a way that might sway an otherwise self-believing young football from dropping down so far. I believe that, allied to a gamble that Birmingham will, in two years, give him what he'd hope to achieve at Fulham in that timeframe - a Premier League starting spot - made it an easy choice for him.         • When a parent dies young through ill health, it's inevitable one might think that might be your own destiny. If that's so, then that can be a driver for wanting to do more sooner, rather than later. He hasn't got kids, so why would wealth be the primary driver?           • As someone who lost one parent in my early twenties, and the other in my thirties, i can absolutely assure you that it's not inevitable that you think like that. Everyone reacts to that kind of thing completely differently. For 10 years i had an overwhelming sense of wanting to do things/do them in a certain way that my mother would have been proud of me. • by this 'logic' its impossible to say either of us wont make it as a premier league striker. Difference is he has actually been looked at on a day to day basis by a manager and his team and I would guess a few other managers too. Yet none decided he was worth the gamble, where as we are both unnoticed talents a await my call up.
