I understand that these are my own personal views on the subject but, the future that the B.Jihad will and can never happen. More on this in a sec.

Other reasons why I feel space flight like this could not be in reallity and certainly not for Dune.

-Relativity. How can you go many times the speed of light and not feel the effects of relativity? A few months at those speeds for you would mean the rest of the universe ages 1000's of years if not more.
-At speeds like those you would need presience(sp?) anyway. I mean no censor could detect an object in your path fast enough to avoid it. You would need to see it before you hit it. Think about it. I mean you might as well be traveling instantly at those speeds anyway. In short distances(say from here to pluto) it would appear instant anyway.
-Wheres the struggle? I mean isn't that what Dune is about? Humanities struggle to just to exist and the choices we make within that struggle?
-Don't you think if we could travel that fast then we could definatly create a weapon greater than atomics? Actually in Dune their level of tech isn't much greater than ours. Certainly the computers of the past would have come up with niffty things that would have persisted until the time of Dune. But, you don't really see that.
-Too damn easy and convenient!

I can believe in instant flight before I can believe in faster than light travel without relativistic effects. Math has never proven false the concept of an object dissapearing and the reappearing at a different point instantly. What about solid matter at light speed? Or faster than light speed? Can't happen.

The reality of Dune is what attracts me to it. The originals are very complete in there explanations and are more scientificly substancial. In B.Jihad you are never told how the ship works only that it does. Much like in Star wars and Star Trek. Wich are bogus by the way. These are science fiction comedies wich were never meant to be taken seriously in any way. Dune on the other hand is a future that could really exist. They study it at Harvard! Much like I can never believe Luke could fly between solar systems in an Xwing fighter, I will never believe in the B.Jihads portrayal of Dunes history. Sure it's a fun story like S.W. and S.T. but it doesn't fit into the seriousness and reality of Dune. In any other series or story this type of flight would be a mere anoyance but in Dune it's a major flaw.

I am usually not a purist in these debates and I am always an optimist when it comes to man's potential. But not when it goes this far. The Jihad brings Dune's history down to the level and quality of Star Wars. Not good for the greatest book ever written. The Jihad could have came after instant flight was invented. I have many ideas on this. Even a reason why A.I. would want to destroy mankind. Wich is something else that isn't explained fully in the B.Jihad.
