Not much I can disagree with you here. Mr. Venning knows finance. He put the city on a good financial footing as comptroller. This is a job that he could accomplish sitting alone in a dark office with a visor on. When he was promoted to City Manager, that job requires interpersonal skills that he doesn’t possess a lot of. He sheltered himself from the media and the public by having requests for information go through Mr. Neppl, who chose what information he would give to the public. There was a total lack of transparency.

As for Councilwoman Stewart, you will note in my initial comments that I said that she needs to temper her comments. She has been too combative, which I think has been exacerbated by her dislike of Mr. Venning’s management style. She needs to develop collegiality to be most effective as a Councilwoman.

Here is another thought for you, which I left out of my initial comments: If you follow this message board regularly, you know that I am often critical of the mayor’s behavior at Council meetings. I believe that the addition of Councilwoman Stewart and Councilman Zorilla to the board has had a positive influence on the mayor. He realizes that he can simply not yell louder than the other council members and bully them into getting his way. It is refreshing to see him lowering his voice and calmly trying to get a board consensus. I hope that we will continue to see this.
