I suggest if you dont like the term bishop you start to call them area managers, because thats all they are.
Cathedrals, we dont like them so much so that it was about 600 years ago that we built our last one. Alas we inherited them. We paid a high price for the Reformation.
If you believe that the church have a message to the modern world, and as you say "I dont mind a gifted sister being ahead of an ungifted brother in an organization, but in the Lord this is improper" You are going to have a hard time making that sound sensible to the world outside the church.
