Subject: Joan, were the 1 commenting on W Blackmon?

I grew up in Green Bay during the Lombardi Era and I'm the Packer fan. Somebody on a forum was talking abt Will Blackmon. Was that you Joan?

I saw the Raiders game when he had an electric punt rtn for a TD as well as recovering the fumble for a TD. Brilliant! Today, he also contributed. As a defensive back, Will dove and batted the ball away from the intended rcvr. He also had 2 nifty punt rtns in the Pack's 33-14 win over Stl Rams. Great stuff!

You'll be pleased to note that some in the Packer organization believe he may be the best athlete on the team and that he fits well into the Packer's long-term plans. The only problem he's had so far is that he's missed several games due to injury. Maybe we'll be able to see him star in the Super Bowl when the Packers route the Pats. Yeah right...LoL...dream on Phil...

Take care, God Bless,

Phil from Packer-crazy AZ

PS - If you werent the person talking abt Will B, plz pass it on to that person.

He's small--only about 6' and 200lbs. Isn't that small for a pro FBer? I think of football as a game for giants, except for the QB. Blackmon seems to be holding his own--more than that!--so I guess some positions don't require size.

And why is it that almost every QB is the pretty boy on the team. lol

...under the avg size. But he's big enough to play defensive back, spcl teams and rtn kicks. I can assure you Joan that even QBs are big now. I can look up some nbrs if you want me too, but you can check the nbrs on NFL.com yourself. It may surprise you a lil' bit, but the reason QBs look so sml is that they're often standing next to lineman. And we know they're huge!! So its kinda relative.

I can only speculate why QBs are 'pretty boys'. As a player, I observed that QBs exuded leadership. Some were often too cocky for their own good. They also play a vital posn that's pro'bly unmatched in any team sport. They needed to know what everybody's doing on a given play. The rest of us only had to know what we were s'posed to do. To this end, they're often given spcl treatment: more attn, higher pay (in the pros) and more accolades when their team plays well. But I've also observed how fans can turn on a QB. W/in moments, QBs can go from the hero to a goat faster than practically any other player. So it kinda goes with the territory: good and bad. As you can pro'bly guess, I played other posns for the most part: Wide rcvr, defensive back and returning kicks after an unsuccessful try-out as QB in HS. (I also punted and held for kicks early on.)

We can solve this 'QB pretty boy' problem really quick. Just go around telling folks that the QB posn's over-rated and he's just another player on the team. I have always said that, much to annoyance of my former QB team-mates. LoL. Now, if you and I both say that, that'll be 2 of us who maintain this. Who knows, maybe every1 will eventually come around to our train of thought and they'll start treating QBs like normal folks. LoL.

Take care, God Bless,

...but Will Blackmon was carted off from the field today in today's game vs the Det Lions. Apparently, its his foot/ankle area again, and hopefully its not serious. But it doesn't look good, I have to admit. And just when he was starting to play regularly...and the Pack were starting to count on him...boom. More details as they become available.
