...it does, but in a way, it doesn't. Most folks of faith are not going to be hvy smokers, drinkers or gamblers. The Bible warns of gluttony and other bad habits. Most Christians that I know do not partake in these self-destructive sins on a regular basis. In short, the notion that we believe that the body is a temple may help us live longer lives than those caught up in reckless and/or hedonistic life styles.

However, we are more likely to care and thus stick our necks on the line for what we believe in. The added stress and difficult environments that we may be exposed to as a result, may cause us to live a slightly shorter life.

Finally, if our nbr's up, its up, so to speak. We Christians are just as subject to accidents, illness and disasters as the next person. Thus, from that standpoint, it's a wash.

Overall, I'd say that since folks of faith are more likely to live a healthy life style would be a slight edge to an answer of 'yes'...if only marginally. Great question tho!!

Take care, God Bless,

Phil from AZ

and I cannot argue any of the points you soundly make. I would say though, even if one is not of faith but lives a very "clean" life, his/her chances are as good as those who are of faith.

I think it depends on the person. Some people are crazy religious. Their religion causes them stress, because they think they have to convert the world. They take it upon themselves to make sure that everyone they come across hears the word. There are some, too, who are so hard on themselves, trying to be perfect, that I think they kinda snap.

I've noticed that some of the stricter denominations tend to attract the formerly reckless types--criminals, alcoholics, drug addicts, etc. I think they gravitate to the controlling nature of the religion--lots of rules combined w/ intense relationships w/ everyone in the congregation. I think they might live longer than they would if they hadn't "found religion".

So I guess it depends on the person.

They say that having a pet extends your life, too. But I find pets more work than they're worth. They bark, shed, insist on eatting, etc. :-) I think a dog would put me in an early grave. :-)

Let's see if I can explain this without confusing anyone. I think it was Soloman who said a merry heart does a person good like medicine. Happiness comes from a good experience. But happiness can be turned to sadness. But peace is everlasting. It goes bone deep, beyond the surface of happy. A think a person who is consistent and believes in his or her God, then they find a peace that one without such a faith doesn't experience. The bible does speak of long life for those who honor God Jehovah. So my answer is Yep. :)
