Subject: No religious leaders in my family........
In reply to: Barb 's message, "Did any of you have religious leaders in your family?" on 16:26:11 07/23/07 Mon

just a great uncle who brought shame on the family name. It was in the 1920's and my Great Uncle John, was studying to be a priest. He was sent away to a seminary in Michigan when he was 15. Back then the seminary also had high schools. Two years before he was to be ordained he quit. Even though he was not ordained, years ago to leave the seminary was considered a disgraceful act that only brought humiliation and 'bad luck' to ones family.

Barb, your grandfather and from the other posts I read about your father really were impressive people! You are so blessed to have a rabbi in your family.

I think it is a blessing for any family of any faith to have a family member as a religious leader.
