Barb, the reason why God is known as a He has to do with Jesus. Many times in the New Testament, in the English translation, God is a HE. In other language translations God can be a HE or SHE or IT, but of course no one can call God an IT, and man is higher than a woman, this you know, so know way God can be a SHE, hence why we call God the Father. I hope that explains it a little more Barb.

Lynn...I will NEVER accept that man is higher than woman............... -- Barb, 09:28:24 08/02/07 Thu [1] (clgrtnt6-port-161.dial.telus.net/161.184.50.161)
and the Bible was written by Men! No wonder it is translated that God is a HE! I love yah, Lynn...but we truly do part company here. Oh well, we can agree to disagree because we are friends. :-)

Barb, I never said that Man was Higher Than Woman... -- Lynn, 12:48:18 08/02/07 Thu [1] (ip72-193-232-42.lv.lv.cox.net/72.193.232.42)
that is what we are led to believe. I also wanted to explain why God is referred as a HE instead of a SHE or IT. A woman can do anything a man can do, but a man can't do everything a woman can do, and if they say they can, let's see them pop out a baby. :)

How do you refer to God? -- Joan, 09:55:54 08/02/07 Thu [1] (ip68-0-253-131.ri.ri.cox.net/68.0.253.131)
Do you always say "God"? If you use a pronoun, which do you use? He, She, It?
I use He, because the 1st person of the Trinity is called the father, and the 2nd person is Jesus, who came to earth as a Man.
I don't believe that God neccesarily has a sex, but our experience of God in human form was as a man, so I'll all ways call God, He. IMO, God is really beyond gender. He's not both genders in one--he's beyond anything human.
Joan

I also refer to God as the Father, which makes him a HE in my book, but I have looked into other religions who use the pronoun IT because they say that God has no gender. I personally cannot go around calling God an IT. In our religion, God did come down to earth as a human before anyone else was on the earth. If anyone is interested in learning a bit of what we believe go to Mormon.org
