She grinned as he spoke, quite amused by this impromptu monologue. But presently a new problem arose: he was beating her! She made her mind up to remedy the situation as soon as he put the bottle down. So she did, grabbing the bottle just as he placed it down for the second time. Another rush of that foggyheaded feeling. All the better for the conversation they were delving into. What should she say? His question was innocuous, but did she want to tell him? She could lie, she supposed, but where would that move the conversation but backward? And she doubted she could lie in her drunken state, or even in her sober state. So the truth it was, or perhaps part of the truth.

"Well... Before I got here, I was living in a town a few hours away, and I decided to leave because, um, things were getting kind of bad for me, and, you know, it was no longer a good place to live, so I bought a bus ticket here because I thought this town had a nice name. So then I was on a bus, and then I got off the bus and was here, and I walked down this street for a while until I saw this bench, and then I saw you. The end."

She drank again to punctuate this story. All the while she'd been leaning further and further over into the middle of the bench without realizing it, and as she finished drinking, she finally lost her balance completely and landed in the space previously dedicated for the vodka bottle. "Oof," she said as she landed on her side, giggling. Like a pro, she'd managed to keep the bottle upright.
