Subject: Yes, but what is the commodity worth if the rules change

That's my point.

The Ox ask for help, because he was finding it difficult. He believed the rules where too strict, and I said "Well look at it this way, if a AFL club didn't trade well in the offseason, and then had an injuries to a ruck, how do you think that side would go in the AFL environment?". I would suggest if you put a very average ruckman in, that side would be killed out of the centre by their AFL opposition. I said, "This league is the same and should remain the same in concept. If you haven't got the right balance, that should reflect as poorly as it would if you didn't have the right balance in AFL actual".

So I said, surely it can't be that hard, so I looked at the balance sheet, and seen many side with an unrealistic amount of number one ruckman. I said to the Ox, ask X coach for X player, as he can't play all his ruckman because of the balance, so you should be able to get that ruckman for a reasonable price on the trade table. He said, No, because they are just playing the second ruckman in FF, CHF or if need be, you could have three ruckman on the bench.

In playing this game over the years, a few things spring to mind about scoring. 1. Taggers score poorly yet at times have great value to an AFL side. Players like Greenwood and Ben Jacobs before his concussions, would be valuable to AFL, but not Superleague. That bugged me. 2. Key position defenders don't score well, because Champion Data don't score spoiling an opponent highly enough. That bugs me. And 3. Ruckman although sometimes don't set the world on fire in an AFL game, score really well in Supercoach terms. That hasn't bugged me as much, until a couple of nights ago.

I see this is a loophole in our system. If like AFL, value to a first ruckman was reduced due to the fact you could play only one of them, then the "Value" of these ruckman will be reduced in everyones side. I have Witts and if he is injured, good chance I could have Stanley. I need to ensure Stanley is getting enough goals for Geelong to allow him the luxury of playing key forward. If not, I will only be playing one or the other.

However, we have 2 six ruck teams, 3 five ruck teams. 3 Rucks seems fair, and then we have some with 2.

What "Value" has 6 ruckman have if balance is considered in this regard? I would say much less. Balancing the competition.

The complaints about teams ill equipped with depth, comes at a price. It seems that price is that someone like the Ox is trading a young gun away like Rankin, to gain a couple players to adhere to the balance requirements. 30+ Key Defender, 30+ Ruckman. I would suggest, balance requirement pain is felt across the league, rather than weakening a side so he is sitting on the bottom for years to come regreting every time Rankin smashes it.
