Maybe then councils in the urban areas would be more sensible and relaxed with rules it wants to impose. We had a colourbond fence built along either side our property dividing properties. It was for our privacy in that my kids wanted to smoke outside and not be in sight of neighbours; particularly a male probably in his klate 40's or 50's who just happens to be standing on his steps most times when my kids are smoking. Council ordered us to take it down because it didn't comply with the aesthetic environment of the neighbourhood, yet it was the same colour, battleship grey of our house which has cement rendering. It was painted that colour when we bought it new. Most of the other houses in our street are that colour. Then there was an issue according to council because that fence was higher that is normally accepted. It was 2 metres. Furthermore it is illegal to skinny dip in backyard pools here, something I promised the kids they could do once that fence was erected.
