Linda just turned 50, about 10 or so years older than my wife and me. She's a bit overweight, but in a most attractive way. Heavy on the makeup, which is fine with me too. And yes, she's well aware how they feel about her. She sat for us a week ago. By the time we got home, the kids were in bed, and my wife was quite tired and went to bed too, leaving Linda and me time for a talk before she left. I smiled knowing perfectly well what she meant. "So I explained to the boys, I'll bet you've done something in the last week would have gotten you into a lot of trouble, but you weren't caught. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, although it would be better if you did, but this is a wonderful way to come clean with God, your parents, and your conscience. So although you've been good boys so far tonight, you should understand how this discipline can help set you right. Have you anything to tell me first?" As an aside, we don't do maintenance spankings, but this is such a great explanation for why they can be beneficial, that I'm rethinking it. Anyway, apparently our 13yo Tommy blurted out, "We stole some of mom's cigarettes." "Did you smoke them, both you and your brother?" "Yes ma'am we did." His older brother Jason is whispering, "Shut up," but it was too late. "Jason, you'll go first in that case. Come over here right now and I will take down your shorts." Both of them were in shorts, Tommy had on a pair of slippers. When my wife spanks, the boys are responsible for stripping everything from the waist down, but Linda prefers to do this herself to establish more authority, as she is not their parent. Linda went on to tell me, "Children, especially teens, erect barriers between themselves and the rest of the world, and spanking is such an effective way to break down those barriers. Of course, as I lowered Tommy's and Jason's shorts, you know it's not the only thing they erect!" I have to say, it's refreshing to be honest about the reality, and I assume parents on this board will totally understand. "They're both developing so well for their ages, you should be very proud." And I most certainly am. "When I spank, I check for the redness of their cheeks and the warmth in my face above them, to help in knowing how to deliver the most effective level of discipline. And I also expect to see tears, real tears and real crying. You know that Jason tries to hold back, but as his cheeks were turning a nice bright shade and the heat was rising from his back side, he began crying, quietly at first, then wailing louder as I picked up the leather paddle your wife said I could use. I like to spank each cheek back and forth by hand until the redness comes, but your paddle has such nice coverage over both cheeks. His crying really started in earnest as I brought the paddle down faster and faster, and he knew his crying would be to no avail." I wondered what his younger brother was doing while Jason was getting it. "Oh, yes, Tommy was sitting across from us at full attention, reacting to each whack on Jason's reddening cheeks. I had to tell him to put his hands on his head until it was his turn so they wouldn't go wandering." I really had to laugh at that. Then I realized we were both smoking too. Linda had graciously offered me a cigarette at the beginning of our talk. I kind of absent-mindedly took it, although I'm not a regular smoker, but she and my wife both are. "I'd hate to be a hypocrite about this," I said. "Oh no, we're adults and are able to make a mature decision about it. Teens, not so much." "So I have to ask, how old were you when you started?" "14" she said, getting a bit red in the face. I laughed again. "Same age as my wife." Well, the kids won't be smokers if I have anything to say about it, and my wife has cut down a lot in the last year. We talked some more before she went home, but I thought I would share this much with the board. Linda is a real treasure as a friend and sitter.
