Subject: I'm late, but yes I've used a humidifier
In reply to: Marlene 's message, "Any experience with humidifiers?" on 09:28:45 01/25/02 Fri

Our other home was very dry and we shorted out three game controllers with static electricity. Not to mention that Matt's nose would bleed at night from it being so dry in the winter. I bought a warm air humidifier and it made a huge difference. That's the good news. The bad news is that it took me several months to notice that it was putting moisture on the walls. Two smokers and subtley dripping walls make for an ugly mess. :( My MIL had one in her bedroom and she stopped using it when she noticed moisture clinging to the ceiling. Last thing is that you must clean them regularly. If you have hard water lime will build up inside and there's also the danger of bacteria growing and being spread around the house. My grandmother used to keep a big pot of water simmering on the stove and place cans of water over the heating vents. Don't know as it really helped much, but her house was never dry.
