Walking is the best exercise when you need to lose weight and when you have dogs you have a good excuse.

Start with what you are capable of and then increase the pace and distance. When you walk quickly you find that the dogs are not marking or investigating, they don't have time (grinning).

Walking is also very good for people with heart conditions. We live in a hilly area and the only place to walk without and steep uphills is a country lane but it still has some slight uphill walking. When people have had a heart attack, you see them walking everyday along this lane. It is 1 mile long, and it is just the right distance for them. Once away from this lane you get the steep hills.
