Hi Jessica,

One of the most important things in life is to have a decent savings account in case something happens, you can support yourelves. Look at me, I am out of work and Robs business is failing miserably, we are in the business of selling computer hardware and software and we are in the SF bay area, hardest hit! so we are struggiling right now. thank god we have a nice nest egg in the bank, it is so important. Now I will also say that you should not worry about your company going under, or being fired unless you know for sure. It is wasted energy and it's not worth it to worry unless you no the facts...Go to your boss and ask him, is my job in jeopardy? Be honest with him, tell him your looking to buy a house.... what do you have to looose? Also, I agree with Marlene, start small, your first house does not need to be "the perfect" house, we got our first house, it is a starter home and very afordable. now we have 200k in equity so we could upgrade if we wanted to. start samll, get something aforadable that is not going to break the bank, can you find something in the 1,200 per month range???? find something aforadable. Also, it is never the prefect time to buy a house, in the long run it is better to be a home owner, for one, you get a nice tax break, # 2, it is a nice investiment and could be your retirment money when you get older, and you won't be evicted or asked to move out, it's a wonderful thing to be a home owner and if you can do it, than go for it...... just make sure you have extra money in the bank, sometimes you can get some extra cash when you move in fromthe loan company, you could put that in the bank, you know you will always have a job, you won't be out of work, beleive me, there is a job out there for you. so if you can swing it, than go for it.... no matter what, you will always have to pay rent or mortgage, It is a very scary thing bying your fisst home, i HAD THE SAME WORRIES AS YOU, BUT I went for it and never regreted my decision.... we are so thankful we did it 3 yeaes ago becasue now, we would not be able to afford a house here.,our payment is 1,500 per month and our house would rent for 2k a month.
