Subject: We are in a period of serious change...
In reply to: Jessica 's message, "Okay, so I touched on the dot com subject down below and a few of you are in the industry also..." on 20:12:21 06/24/01 Sun

But it was bound to happen, Jessica. The feeling now is that there was too much reliance on site advertisers (all of those banners and pop ups) in the traditional manner of magazine ads and not enough of the traditional brick and mortar of retailing business (similar to amazon where the site is just a storefront for the business). I expect to see a very low period over the next couple of years where the weak are weeded out and the strong rebuild infrastructure in a manner more similar to the traditional retailer and less like the magazine format. The problem lies in there not being enough advertisers to support so many sites. Only the best will hang in there. This is an advantage to the consumer, but of course hits those in the industry hard. It will take a strong re-adjustment in ways of thinking.

But this is business anyway and nothing unusual. *laughing and groaning*

The market is still fluctuating and tending towards low. The forecasters don't see an upward trend anytime soon.
