Well my recipe for success with tomatoes has always been, plant early in fresh soil [unless you know how to steralize it to get rid of any bacteria that could grow on the soil/container interface], fertalize the ground before planting with Miracle Grow [sorry Meri and Lisa] and make sure you have plenty of drainage in the soil. Stake and tie the plants then place in area with plenty of afternoon sunshine and let them grow.

If you get any buggies or blight spray "the soil only" alternately with 1/2 strength clorox [to kill the blight] and "soil and plant with" ammonia/lemon dish detergent/water mixture to kill bugs. Water washes all the "stuff" away so you won't eat any of the residue as you would with pesticides.

Doing this I have always had so many tomatoes I had to give them away or they rotted.
