Leaf rolling catepillar

I had cannas too (haven't gotten a chance to plant them in the newer home. These catepillars are prevalent and love cannas.

As the article mentioned, I pick off the leaves with a minor infestation and discard in a safe place. You are going to laugh at me, but understand...I'm an organic gardener. A spray of epazote seed extract or garlic oil does wonders. Also, you can companion plant coneflowers or passion flowers. The bugs prefer those to the canna (tasty) and will stay off the prized goodies. Final tip, don't kill your wasps. They eat the eggs.

Marlene is correct, they are a rhizome. If you are getting a lot of shoots, best to divide them now. Diane is also correct because we've had a chat before. In NZ, they are corms. LOL!!!
