I think the only reason people didn't connect with Doggett and Reyes is because they refused to give them a chance. Those of us who are still watching the show understand that. A lot of people saw that Mulder was leaving and decided that they weren't going to watch because of it. Those people are the reason TXF is going off the air. I haven't met too many people online or off who began watching this season and stopped because they couldn't connect or relate to Doggett and Reyes, or because the stories were just so bad. The ratings are down because people won't even give it a try.

Yes, it's sad that Mulder and Scully can't live on forever and keep us entertained until we're all old and decrepid. But different does not equal bad. To me, for someone to say that they won't watch the X-Files because it doesn't have Mulder is the same as saying they won't watch Everybody Loves Raymond because it doesn't have Mulder. If one watches TXF without Mulder and decide that the show lacks quality and spark and chemistry without Mulder is fine, to just ban it because it has evolved is closed minded.
