Bubba is behind the bar, back from his secret errand. Stardoe is bellied up to the bar, one foot on the railing that Kande has had put at the foot of the bar. She is wearing her Sheriff's uniform, her belly straining at the buttons from too many donuts that morning.

KS motions to Bubba for a rootbeer, which he silently draws for her. Stardoe and KS are making small talk. While they are engaged in an activity that millions of people worldwide participate in, Rabid has momentarily escaped her captors.

Rabid frantically searches through the debris that litters Stardoe's laboratory. "What has Stardoe done with that antidote?" she whispers to herself. She glances up. There are voices outside and she can see the gleam of a flashlight as her abductors look for her in the bushes. She only has a few moments before they find her again. At last! Just as her hand closes on the item she's been looking for, the door swings open and voices babble excitedly while hands grasp for her. Rabid screams with all her might.

Back in the Klub, Stardoe raises her head as a scream pierces the night air. "Did you hear that?" She glances over at KS's calm face and mentally slaps her head. D'oh! Everyone knows the Kande sisters are hard of hearing. Of course KS hadn't heard the scream.

KS purses her lips. "Was it something that started out as a piercing shriek, bloomed as a full blood-curdling scream, then petered out into a gurgle and death rattle?"

Stardoe and Bubba look at each other. Holy Cow! She heard it. Stardoe clears her throat. "Why, yes. That's exactly what it sounded like."

KS hops off her bar stool and looks at her watch. "Just in time. I've gotta run home before I go rescue Rabid, Scully, and Charlotte."

"Why?"

"I had SMH on the rack while I was at the library and judging by that scream, she's just about had enough."

Stardoe is astonished. "SMH? What did she ever do to you?"

KS shrugs. "Nothing. I like her. But she doesn't have a computer any more and can't get herself out of scrapes. It was the perfect opportunity."

KS disappears into the night. Stardoe shakes her head and decides to pop down to the lab.
