Arienne smiled lightly, sliding her sketchbook back into her satchel. Then she encircled Aiko in her own arms and drew the young girl into her lap. Her heart went out to Aiko, who had obviously witnessed the two deaths, as her arms did. She murmured; "Don't be scared..." while stroking the girl's hair. That's what Mum always did, Arienne remembered.

She couldn't comprehend where the girl had gotten the idea that Arienne was going to kill herself. Llwyd sent her a picture of the knife she held in her hands. Her eyes fell to the knife she'd forgotten she held. The artist smiled at Aiko. "Nope. I love life." She held the sharp tool above the sand and let it drop. It buried itself nearly up to the hilt. With a slight shudder, she pushed it farther in, until not a glint of silver-grey showed.
