Fair Winds and Following Seas to JAG! We shall miss you!

Welcome! This MB was created for fans of the Donald Bellisario Production's JAG's Lt. Colonel Sarah Mackenzie. This is to be a PG, Family Friendly board, and will not tolerate any explicit language or innuendos regarding the actress who plays Lt. Colonel Sarah Mackenzie, or the character herself.   • One I love to watch for the teamwork between Harm and Mac is Embassy. We see the girly Mac wondering what she would wear and taking offense to Webb's weight guess, we see elegant Mac, ingenious Mac distracting guards, we see defiant Mac, we see marine Mac and we get that delightful ending shot of Mac and Harm leaving with their arms around each other, her head on his shoulder, SIGH.     • I have to say that Embassy is one of my all time favorite JAG episodes. It has everything that I love about JAG in one episode. And I really enjoy episodes where they can mix some humor in with the adventure aspects. I love the scene in AJ's office with Harm, Mac, AJ and Webb and Mac's comeback to Webb's commenting on her measurments and weight and then the reaction of Webb when Mac comes in wearing the dress he picked for her.   JAG FANS need to be UNITED FOR THIS:
  
  Katie Holmes opted to leave The Dark Knight due to scheduling conflicts and turned down 2 million dollars for an Indie Comedy flick. She also wanted more quality to her heroine character in TDK and wanted more screentime other than 10 minutes.
  The best part is Holmes said if she ever goes back to do Batman she wants her good friend Catherine Bell working with her and Anne Hathaway. She feels Bell is not only a wonderful person but one talented actress. She feels Bell is perfect for the role of Gilda,wife of Harvey Dent known as Batman's frienemy Two-Face. Hathaway she is advocating as perfect for Joker's sidekick Harley.
  
  Ofcourse some Batman fans are angry at Holmes for rejecting to do part 2 and blaming that the culprit is Cruise.
  The movie is on delay production but TDK might start May or June but Batman 3 production is just around the corner
  so let's show our support for Katie because she's advocating Catherine Bell.
  Other than CB, Holmes really admires Helen Mirren,Cate Blanchett,Meryl Streep,Emily Blunt and many other TV and movie actresses.
  
  Katie even added that while she is good friends with Bosworth and Routh on Superman Returns she can also easily see Elliott and Bell perfect for the movie.
  Holmes was introduced to Jag because of her dad who watches it and many of her family members including her dad are lawyers.
  What ticks me off is that when Batman fans heard this they mock Holmes that she is drugged up and said who would watch DJE and CB when no one has heard of their show, its a sucky show, they're crappy actors and they bet they have no fanbase at all.
  Can we please show them that CB and DJE have fans.
  
  Again please vote for Katie's return because its the best chance for CB to be part in it if Katie is attached to this franchise.

  What do you think was going through Mac's mind when she first saw the diamonds lying on her living room table with the persian music playing and then seeing the diamonds on her bed?
  
  Mac obviously contacted the CIA to let them know that Sadik was stalking her. Whose plan do you think it was to have Mac draw him out the way she did, Mac's or the CIA's?
  
  What do you think was going through Mac's mind when Sadik was playing mind games with her?
  
  Mac was doing a great job of getting bits of information out of Sadik and got him to tell her about the bomb at the nightclub. And you could just see when she went into Marine mode by the look on her face and when she stepped out of her shoes. Do you think she thought at that point,'I wish I hadn't worn a skirt..lol?
  
  I just love this episode and I loved how Mac took control of the whole situation and did what she needed to do. This is one kick a** Mac episode.

  • I just love that scene where she slips out of those shoes! LOL! I spent a lot of time thinking about this episode I made a short video about what I thought must have gone through Mac's mind when she first picked up the diamond in her apartment. The flashbacks she must have had. This is a really great episode and you have asked some interesting questions I can't wait to see what everyone here at the board thinks.   Do you guys think that season 10 was unesscesary? Should the show have ended in season 9? Or do you think season 10 should have been rewritten starting at the season premire? It just seems like to me season 10 had the potential to be something realy great...and then it wasen't. and I think CBS realized that too.   • No, i don't think season10 was unnecessary at all. No it shouldn't have ended in Season 9 because we would have missed out on seeing Mac. I do think however that some of the episodes of season 10 were quite lackluster and out of order of sorts. I don't think CBS realized anything of the sort. CBS is the one that jacked Dpb around till the bitter end and that's why the ending was rushed. Could they have done better with some of the season 10 episodes, absolutely. Jag wouldn't have ended any differently because CBS didn't give Dpb any time to prepare for the end. CBS led him along with a possible renewal by trying to go for a younger demo and a fresher look.     • I also think the way they brought in the Vukovic character wasn't the smartest in the world either. Chris Beetem is a cutie and I think if they would have brought him in differently and maybe a Marine of say Bud's rank it would have been a little easier. They also made him a Harm of season 1 (that's why I found it amusing that people complained about him to some extent. It was Krennick and Harm in reverse, and that's one of the reasons I hated season 1, because of Harm and the acting was awful.) I think what CBS should have done was tell Dpb upfront this will be your final season and they could have set it up differently, but you can only work with what they give you. Season 1 Harm was dashing, and a bit of a womanizer, but he was never sleazy or disrespectful the way Vukovic was.   • Yes I think S10 was necessary....heck I would've watched had it continued on LOL! I do wish that they would've started the season with the original premiere, which was what we now know as the 4% Solution...that would've made much more sense, & could've possibly set things in action. I don't want to rehash all the crap that happened, cause that's not productive. I don't blame TPTB for grasping onto that line CBS threw, there were 200-300 jobs on the line & like I've said before its a business & as much as we don't like certain aspects of it its all about money.     • The only complaint that I had about season ten was that the final episode was half boring for a season ender. The Harm and Mac and Bud and Harriet etc parts were good, but the Vukovic story was boring. It didn't hold my interest. I understand that they were pressed for time to get a proper episode out for the end of the series, but even if it had just been the season ender, the story could have been better. The audience didn't love Vukovic yet, and it shouldn't have focused so much on him. It should have focused on Mac if she was going to be transitioned as the head of the show.   • Season 10 was definately a let down of sorts, especially the way the finale was handled but i still enjoyed it. It would have been nice to see Mac and Harm work more together and start moving towards a relationship instead of becoming distant.   • I think that JAG could have ended well at H&F with Harm holding onto Mac's hand, with a little more conversation added. I think that while the entire S10 wasn't a waste, there were many opportunities to bring the show to a close that were wasted. We could have had so much more resolution to some things than we got...did Sergei marry Galina? what happened to tthat paper clip anyway? the $30,000?       • Well in all honesty, some of those questions I don't really care about...I never bought the whole "I'm your brother" story arc, & who cares if Sergei got married or not...just another wasted character & wasted story arc IMHO...Though Jade Carter is a delightful man, this story arc to me was flat. DB is famous for leaving things open, he doesn't have a history of wrapping things up in a neat little package....that's why I'm thankful for the ending that did happen, cause it could've been just as easy to put a blurb at the end (like Dr. Sam Beckett never returned home) that Mac & Harm went to their separate commands & never saw each other again....I do agree that the finale ep should've been a 2 hour send-off...Inside.. -- Jennifer, 08:08:44 02/16/07 Fri

I could be perfectly happy with season ten if I skipped from the hand holding and "we both are" in 4%, to the flashbacks in the finale, to Mac showing up at Harm's door, and saying "Let's talk about you and me."   • Of course they did. It was the general rule that if the camera fades out while they're still kissing they made love, if not then not. There's no reason not to, though I do hope they shut the door first. LOL! I always thought that scene would have been good with camera panning away and out the door and we see Harm pick her up heading toward the bedroom and kick the door shut on the way by.         • Catherine said it was awkward and wierd when it came to the mushy scenes because they thought of each other as brother and sister. I would think it would be very odd to kiss someone you view as a sibling figure. But Catherine also said in the same interview that they were professionals, so you just do you job. I know Catherine has said in another interview that the cast and crew viewed each other as siblings on the set, but I can't speculate or speak for what kind of relationship they had in real life, only they know that.   • The open door bugged me too and I agree with the general concensus that they did get together before McMurphy's. Regardless of whether TPTB originally knew if JAG was to be picked up or not. they did know that this was Harm's last episode. The whole Vukovic arc should never have been. If the show was to continue he would get plenty of airtime in the new season. I think the fans that hung in there for 9-10 years deserved more time with the characters that had attracted them to JAG in the first place.. I have no problem with the coin toss finale letting shippers and non-shippers alike draw their own conclusions but, we should have been left with a feeling of WOW instead of PHEW. LOL!   Here is an interesting scene.I think this is also the scene or at least the episode where Mac calls Harm "flyboy" and Harm calls her "ninja girl". Now this is the only time that those names are used in the show that I recall, yet the fans especially fan fiction seems to be really interested in those names.Why do you think this is the case?   • I don't know if I could pick just one....Full Engagement we learn about the alcoholic Mac...Rendezvous & Second Sight about her childhood & abusive father & being abandonded by her mother...and of course 4% Solution, where she figures out certain things about herself & Harm....I don't think I can narrow it to just one ep, how about we do one a season LOL!   • For me the reasons for what made Mac tick were a culmination of many things. For me there is not one single definitive episode that revealed that to me because I got a good sense of Mac from the very first episode of "We The People" through every episode of Mac's nine year run. Over the seasons what made Mac tick was revealed over the years. Mac was such a wonderful, human, strong and loving character no matter what TPTB threw at her. She was both woman and Marine. And for me what added to the specialness of Mac and what made her tick was Catherine's portrayal of her since day one and how she revealed the many sides of Mac from day one to the very end.   Jennifer commented and I believe we all agreed that it was angering how little support Mac recieved from her JAG family after Paraguay. My question is, how much did the people at JAG really know about what went on in Paraguay?
  
  I just watched the scene from Shifting Sands.
  Here's how it went.
  When Harm and Mac return to JAG people are laughing and clapping. Harm says, "Thanks but it would have been nice if you met us at the airport." They JAG crew looks surprised and happy. Mac and Harm are smiling with them.
  
  Sturgis smiles and says "Welcome back"
  
  Harriet says, "What happened down there Sir, the rumors were intense."
  
  Harm responds, "That's classified Lt. At least until we sell of the movie rights."
  
  Mac chuckles and then says, "What's the occasion?"
  
  Sturgis tells them it's Tiner's last day. They talk about where Tiner is going. She says she'll miss him, and gives him a hug. Harm asks how long they've been gone, and then Mac jokes with Harm about the world not stopping just because he left the room etc. The scene ends with Bud asking about Harm's military status and Harm saying that's up to the Admiral.

  Okay, here's the real question, how much trauma did they think Mac went through? She's standing there, looking healthy and beautiful as normal. Joking with Harm, smiling with everyone else etc. They aren't allowed to know what happened. I'm not defending the JAG family, I'm just saying that we were the ones who saw her strapped to that filthy table and held captive etc. Not them.
  
  The only adverse effect that the JAG crew saw was Harm giving up his commission, and the Admiral not letting him come back. Mac was back at work. Doing her best at putting on a brave face, and it worked. Harm wasn't there, so they missed him.
  
  They should have been there for her. No doubt. But how much did they think they needed to be?

    • I'll only address part of your post as I'm not talking about how the show was set up, and at least the last half of it was just as much if not more about Mac than Harm, but anyway. I don't think she was okay when she got back. She had been held captive, nearly starved in a filthy room, seen two people executed right in front of her, and strapped to a torture table. There's no way she was alright. She just put on a brave face. I do agree though that things got worse when Harm wasn't around. She wanted him, otherwise she wouldn't have called him 17 times. Forget the conversation in the hotel room, they can both work around that if they have to. Mac needed Harm's support more than anyone. He saw what she went through. The main JAG family didn't.     • I disagree P, I think it had a lot to do with the writing & the fact that DB wasn't involved in the day-to-day operations of JAG...even he said he wasn't happy with certain things in the Paraguay arc, & how some things in S9 progressed....Mac's life didn't unravel because Harm wasn't in it, she had problems because she went through H*** in Paraguay, was almost killed more than once, was tortured, watched be executed & so on. Was Harm important in Mac's life? Of course! But in the end she faced her demons ALONE, got professional help, & found her inner peace by herself...Harm gave her space, but Mac didn't need him to stand on her own two feet, she was an incredibly strong woman.   • While I realize that the JAG family wouldn't be privy to the extent of what happened, they should've, IMHO known it was something pretty serious. A foreign country, plus the fact that Harm re-signing his commission should've been enough to let them *know* it was pretty serious. They are lawyers who investigate & unravel things & to just assume that Mac was fine I think did a huge disservice. They made a *point* of asking about Harm on a consistent basis, but no one afforded the same thing to Mac. That was confusing for me at the time because it was out of context. I wondered what happened to make her have a good nights sleep. At the time 4% solution wasn't even filmed yet.                       • That's because 4% Solution was originally written to be the season opener, under a different title. Gosh I can't recall where I read this, but TPTB didn't think the ep had enough *action* for the season premiere, so we got going after Webb instead....so some of the scenes that were to be used in the opener were revamped for the ep we know as the 4% Solution, which is why some things do seem out of context.                         • I know it's out of context, that's why it was wierd when I saw the episode. Because the episode that Mac makes this comment is well before 4% solution, so it doesn't go together. So the comment she made just seemed wacky at the time.                           • I meant out of order.....its just like in S7, with JAGathon, Redemption & Ambush....up until JAGathon things were a little strained with Harm & Mac, but in Redemption (which was originally supposed to air after JAGathon but they wanted JAGathon as a sweeps ep) you have that scene where Harm drives from Norfolk to talk to Mac & she's in her jammies & invites him in for coffee, like they are perfectly at ease with each other (or back at the beginning) & in the next ep, JAGathon, is where Harm makes that rude dead boyfriends comment....its weird how the eps were sometimes shown out of order.                             • The 4% solution flash backs were 2 months previous to when the episode actually aired. It was during Retrial that the flashbacks took place. Retrial was only the 3rd episode of the season. 4% solution was supposed to be the season opener, but they changed that intending to do it soon after the premiere but it got pushed down to the Christmas episode. TPTB told us this in person at Fanfest. Which is why the scripts and the spoilers for this episode for Alicia Montes (which I still have somewhere) were the first ones to come out for the season.                 • I understand that her other relationships wouldn't have worked out, but her friends and co-workers just wanted her to be happy and they would have been happy for her even if she found happiness with someone other than Harm. As long as Mac was happy they were happy, as any good friend should be. In the end she ended up her one true love Harm. I think in many ways Harriet loved and admired Mac as a friend and sister figure (as she states in Wedding Bell Blues), but she also wasn't there for her as she should have been.               • Which didn't make a whole lot of sense, because Harriet and Coates were worried about Harm and Mac when they were missing and everyone welcomed her home when she came in with Harm after they got back. Then they didn't do or say anything else about it. Like they were relieved that she was home in one piece, and so didn't really see the fact that she was in a thousand pieces.                 • Bud ticked me off even more....all he could do was ask about Harm, not once did he ever bother to ask Mac how she was. Bud worked with Mac on a daily basis, where Harriet at this time was on Reserve Status, & it would've been nice to see some compassion from Bud.....but all he cared about was Harm, & in a sense Bud I think blamed Mac for Harm's choice, & it never really set well.   • The only office pool I can ever remember was the one Harriet started for the JAG-athon....I think most may of realized that there was a connection between Mac & Harm, but wisely stayed out of their personal lives. Like Kathy said, they were happy (as long as Mac & Harm were happy) with others, as evidenced by the fact that Bud accepted Mic's asking him to be his best man.   If you were a producer/writer like DB
  
  if you had a vision of a ten year story base on a real person or imaginary
  
  would you change the story if you added another character that blew your storyline away?
  
  
  In this case I think we all realize that Harmon Rabb began as a lone wolf like many of DB's other shows,
  
  Magnum is a prime example.
  
  As such Harm would likely play the field for many years.
  
  And in all likelyhood, might never get married.
  
  Who knows the original intent of the show Harm might have gone back to flying for another five years.
  
  
  But as we all know Sarah Mackenzie came aboard in season two and blew the concept of the show out of the water.
  
  We all know the chemistry Cb developed with DJE, it was special.
  
  Harm and Mac were special and they were headed for greatness together.
  
  DB married Bud and Harriet giving us hope of what kind of show jag was heading
  
  that is the military is more than about fighting, that there is a life outside of work. friends and family
  
  
  Unfortunately for most of us DB threw up more road blocks that seem unrealistic to real life to keep our favorite people apart.
  
  
  I guess what I'm really trying to say is
  
  should the creator of a show keep to their original intent or
  
  should they change because the characters change.
  
  
  
  I can see Harm being a lone wolf working with Meg or Caitlin
  while never marrying Annie, jordan, or renee.
  
  
  But I can't see Harm not working something out with Mac. I can't see why it should take nine years.
  
  They knew there was something between them. Every person they met from Annie to Sokol to Caitlin to Mic and Renee knew Harm and Mac were in love with each other.
  
  
  please give an answer other than 'Jumping the Shark'

  • I don't think DPB changed the direction or intent of the show or character of Harm with addition of Mac. I think he fulfilled it. NBC took over his original idea, got rid of the brunette, put in a blonde and made Harm and loner. All things that DPB didn't want. When he got a second chance with CBS he created the character of Mac and brought in Catherine. He fully intended to play on the fact that she looked like Harm's dead love. He's fully intended to get Harm and Mac together at the end, as he said he did. Inside...
