  • She nodded through her tears, sobbing into her husbands shoulder for a good minute before she looked up, her eyes finding Karlie and shaking her head. "Get her, she doesn't need to hear what they say..god they make it so cold..get her Quin, before they say anything to her." She pleaded, her whole body shaking. They had been so descriptive when they told her about the bleeding and the ruptures and the tearing and scars and the car being torn in half...she had thrown up in the bathroom after it all and was about again just thinking about it as her husband went to guide Karlie away from the nurses and doctors, bringing her back to him. "It's...its not good, sweetie." Was all she managed to say before she broke down again, Kate never broke down, she wasn't afraid of gore and she rarely cried but right now she was sobbing and shaking, unable to breathe and about to make herself sick. • (He was looking between the two women after he sat Karlie back down, the girl immediately pulling her knees up like Kate had done and looking around like a deer in the headlights.. they were counting on him and he had caused this. He ran a hand over his face and started to pace a bit, feeling the guilt choking him inside.) (She watched Quin pace, her eyes worried.) I threw the remote at him.. I said horrible things.. (She sobbed the last part out, tears swimming in her eyes again, her stomach aching and her head throbbing.) (He shook his head as he looked at Karlie.) • She looked between the two of them with clouded eyes, shaking her head. "It no one's fault but his! What the hell was he thinking driving? It's his own, fault, damnit, for drinking a bottle of bourbon in the middle of the day and then getting behind the fucking wheel!" She looked a little shocked at her own outburst, her hand coming up to cover her mouth before she stood up jogged back to the womens restroom, getting sick once again as she cried, sinking down onto the floor there. She hadn't even told the two of them what all had happened. She forced herself to stand up, going to the sink and splashing cold water on her face before she stepped out of the bathroom, motioning for her husband to come over there with her so she could speak to him privately. • (He left Karlie sitting in the seat crying, glancing back at her worriedly as he walked over to where Kate was, lifting his hand to caress her cheek even though his heart was aching desperately.) Kate.. I did a horrible thing.. (He said before she could speak, the guilt on his chest was just too much for him to bear any longer.) He came over this morning half stinking of alcohol and mused cause he didn't go home last night and we had a really bad fight.. he was crying when he left and he had alcohol in the car I am sure.. (He had a hand on his forehead and he shook his head, his eyes pained, tears threatening again..) He doesn't think I love him, Kate.. He hates me and I let him go.. • She bit her lip at the part about Nick crying, Nicky didn't cry, he already been his mama's strong little boy, taking care of her whenever she was upset. It had to have been a bad fight. "Quin, baby..." She murmured softly, moving to wrap her arms around his neck, squeezing tightly as her own tears streaked over her cheeks. "You didn't force him to drink that alcohol, you couldn't have known he had it in the car, this is not your fault." She stated softly, soothingly, she had meant what she said, it was no one's fault but Nicks, he knew better then to drink like that and then drive afterwards. "I know he won't blame you for it and you shouldn't be blaming yourself love.." She was talking like her baby was going to make it because she knew he would, he was so strong. "He's so strong, he'll make it through this, he has to make it through this..." Quin and Karlie didn't know how serious it was, how Nick was laying between life and death right now. • (He felt like he didn't deserve her coddling when he had been such a loser.. he deserved to walk out of their lives and never look back, to suffer through this on his own the way Kate had suffered through his meager ability to be there for her.) God, I thought I was helping him not be like me and I made him hate me.. and now he's... (He trailed off, trying desperately to gather himself, men like him just didn't cry in public.. but he was so broken down about this.) He has to make it through.. • She ran her hands over the back of his head, holding her husband closely as they cried for their boy together. It must have been one hell of a fight because she knew Nicky would never bring up the way he felt his father neglected him to Quin, he was to proud for that so all of this had to have come out that day. Plus, he only called her Katie when he was feeling particulary emotional. Her hand soothed over his hair before she leaned back to speak, swallowing heavily. "He hit a semi, his car was torn in half.." It made her ill to even talk about it and it showed the way her eyes closed and she leaned more heavily against him. • (He seemed to go from loosely sobbing to suddenly tense in a split second, his shoulders tightening and his breath stopping for a long moment. When his head came up, his eyes were shocked, as though perhaps he expected her to suddenly admit that she had been joking.. his boy had only been in a car accident.. it couldn't be as bad as she made it sound. The expression on her face when her eyes closed had his breath coming out on a choked sob, and his knees suddenly felt very weak.) Is he... will he..? (He was asking her just how bad it was, not for the specifics, but for the general prognosis.. he needed some hope to cling to because he was slipping swiftly into a dispair that would land him in a hospital bed beside his son.) • She let out a shaky breath, pulling back from him as she ran her hand down her face, trying to keep control of her emotions and gain control and some grip on herself. "They don't know..he was in surgery last time I talked to anyone." She stated with a shaky breath, her brow furrowed as she looked up at her husband. Now that she knew that he had gotten into the fight with their son she knew he had to be feeling horrible. Her eyes moved over to Karlie, crying on the bench, as she let out a soft breath, her brow furrowed. "She can't talk to a doctor, I got sick from hearing the details, she won't be able to handle it." • (He sighed as well as she took a shaky breath, his hands brushing aside his own tears as a cold and resolute darkness filled him inside.. he felt like of all the people in the world that deserved a miracle to occur, he was not the one to ask for his son's recovery... but for Karlie, he would ask - because she deserved for Nick to recover.. and for Kate who deserved her son's love.) She feels like it's her fault that he went out last night. (He said as though it were rediculous she think it, when it was so obvious that he was the cause.) I need a moment, will you go to her? (He needed to go outside for a moment, he was suddenly feeling really warm and the anger boiling in him needed to come out.. just not in front of the women.) She went over to the bench where Karlie was at, wrapping an arm around the girls shoulder. "He's a strong headed boy with a quick temper like his father, you can't be blaming yourself for this." She murmured softly, brushing her hand over the girls hair as she watched Quin's back as he left to go outside.   • She wasn't quite sure what to tell the girl, she was good at talking people out of shooting someone but comforting really wasn't her strong suit when she just wanted to be comforted herself. She was also a little confused when she didn't see Quin come back in and it had been a half hour. "I'll be right back, sweetie..." She murmured to Karlie who had almost cried herself to sleep. She stood up, heading out the doors to look around, figuring he was indulging in a smoke or something, hoping to God he hadn't left but when he wasn't anywhere to be found her heart sank, her eyes closing as she let out a slow breath. • (The doctors had run several scans on him and had found a substance in his blood that was acting as an inhibitor - which they found out was in the drug he had been prescribed by the agency. They had spent the next twenty minutes on the phone with doctors at the agency running through the information in his file from when he had been enlisted in the force.. and they had finally figured out what had made him snap. One of the doctors finally realized that his son was the one in the ER and that his wife would be out there waiting for him, so he walked out to find her outside.) Kaitlyn McAlistar? I have some information regarding your husband, can I see you inside please? (He asked and then lead the way into a patient room where Quin was sitting in a chair with an IV in his arm, his head leaned back as he dozed from the sedatives.) • "My husband?" She questioned, standing up. "My husband isn't here, my son is...my son Nickolas.." She followed the doctor none the less but then stopped suddenly when she saw Quin. "What happened? What happened to him?" Her voice was near hysterics at that question, she couldn't handle this, she couldn't deal with something being wrong with him too, she just couldn't. • (The doctor laid a hand on her arm as Quin groggily lifted his head.) He had a bit of a breakdown, we had to sedate him. He'll be just find when he wakes up fully. (He frowned a little as he looked at her.) I brought you in here because I am concerned about some information I found when I dug into his medical files. It seems they've been treating him for Asperger's Syndrome.. which is sort of like autism.. but he doesnt display any of the symptoms of that disease. (He crossed his arms over his chest as he looked from the groggy man sitting next to him, trying to open his eyes but failing miserably. He patted Quin's shoulder to get him to settle down and relax before he continued.) When we did some blood work on him we found high levels of inhibitors in his blood.. this wouldn't be a huge issue unless I hadn't already seen a lot of the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress in your husband.. how long has he been taking this medication? • "I..I don't know..." She couldn't handle this right now, her son was fighting to live on a surgery table just a few rooms down and this was going on now? Her hand was shaking as she raised it to her forehead, trying to think. "Years, we've been married twenty two years and he went on it before we were married..." She ran her hand down her face, trying to keep from breaking down in sobs at the very moment but it was difficult. If she were a lesser woman she would be breaking down right now but she was using ever ounce of strength within her to stay focused and help Quin and soothe Karlie and pray for her son and she needed to call someone to go over and let Shay know what was going on, there was just to much to take in at the moment. Her hand went to her stomach, fighting the queasiness and the urge to just scream out the injustice of all this to god. • (He nodded and wrote something down before he went over and checked Quin's IV, sighing a little bit before he looked to her.) I am running some liquids through him to cleanse his system out, it should help clear his head a bit. As far as I can tell someone has been keeping him from remembering something that happened to him and it has been causing these reoccuring episodes that keep showing up in his records. Any solitary behavior or mood alterations would be due to this drug. (He realized he was rambling and that the woman was probably on the verge of a breakdown herself.) • She was about to say something before she shook her head, her hand going to her mouth. "I am going to be sick." She muttered out before she spun around to the bathroom attached to the room, dropping down on the tiled floor once again and losing...well nothing, her stomachs contents had long since been emptied so it was yucky stuff really. She absently noted how bad it tasted through her tears before she just reached up, patting around to find the faucet and turning on the water, running her hand over it and bringing her hand to her face, her hands shaking as she fought the sobs that were inside her throat, tearing it apart. This wasn't just an emotional pain, it was physical, her family was falling apart in front of her and she couldn't do a damn thing to stop it. • (He watched the woman run out of the room and registered the fact that her words had elevated her husband's pulse, showing he was near free of the sedatives effects. He sighed and followed her out into the hall, getting one of the nurses to take her a glass of water with electrolyts in it to calm her stomach and to show her back to the room her husband was in while he went to check in on her son. It would only be another ten minutes before Quin was able to blink groggily at the door opposite him, his throat was dry and he was feeling really disoriented and confused,, but for the first time in a long time his head felt clear. He kept opening and closing his hand on his thigh as he tried to figure out what had happened and why he was in this room when it all started to come back to him.. the fight, the accident, Kate and Karlie and his anger.. ) (NT) -- Doctor, Mon, Feb 13 2006, 11:34pm PST

• Tears were streaking her face, her hair was mussed, her eyes swollen and red as she looked up at him, sobbing heard when she heard her nickname that only he was allowed to use so tenderly come from him lips. "God..Quin..." She murmured, dropping into his arms and clinging from him, for the first time in years seeing the love of her life in those green depths, she couldn't put into words how much she needed him then, how much she needed his strength and his support that was her baby in there, their first born child, their only boy and the sobs that were coming from her could only be those of an anguished mother in pain for her child and her family. "Shay..someones got to be there for Shay..." Their girl had just turned eighteen and had gotten heartbroken and she couldn't be left alone when she heard this news on top of her heartache, Shay had always been Quin's favorite, though of course the kids didn't know that but Kate did... "You..you disappeared and then the doctor came and got me and said..I don't know what he said..something.." I got really angry.. (He brought his hands up to show her the white wrappings that covered his knuckles from where he had beaten them again the bricks outside. Nevertheless, he reached over to pull her up to her feet as he got to his own.) Physically I feel perfect.. She gazed over at the two of them blankly for a moment before she looked up as the doctor came in, letting out a soft breath at the serious look on his face. Her boy had to be ok there was no way he was anything but ok. He cleared his throat lightly. "Your the McAlistar family, correct?" He questioned before he spoke. "Nick is out of surgery for the time being and in the ICU. We were able to repair all the internal injuries to the best of our ability. Our biggest obstacle is that as of yet he hasn't regained consciousness and we are now playing the waiting game. We can't tell if there is any brain damage until he awakens... • (He held Shay tight to his side as the doctor came over to them, his eyes sharply assessing the man as he spoke and his hand moving over her arm as she held onto him. He looked over at Kate and sighed a bit, at least Nick was out of surgery and alive.. they would take one thing at a time and be pleased with it.) Thank you. (He said and was about to keep talking when little Karlie finally spoke.) (She had been good about behaving herself all along, but she was fed up with waiting and her heart was breaking....) I need to see him. (The voice that came from her didn't sound like her, it was a resolute sound and born from her intense need to reassure Nick that she loved him.) • The doctor paused, his brow knitting together for a second. "One person can go in at a time but I have to warn you...he doesn't look good." Honestly, he didn't even look like Nick, his face was bruised and swollen as was most of his body and his chest was wrapped in guaze thanks to the surgeries. A few ribs were broken, his wrist had been smashed to piece, it just wasn't a pretty sight. "When your ready a nurse will take you back."
