...but the valve opens momentiarily, releasing a certain volume of compressed gas. For simplicity's sake let's say that the valve allows "three ounces of compressed gas" on each trigger pull.

Now let's say that you purposely "go liquid". The valve will allow "three ounces of liquid CO2" on each trigger pull. Yeah, I know mass and weight are different things, but I'm trying to keep it simple here.

My question is: Which has more potential energy, three ounces of compressed gas, or three ounces of liquid CO2?

I have a concern that three ounces of compressed gas will push a typical paintball out of the barrel at a speed of 280 feet per second, whereas three ounces of liquid CO2, once it fully expands in the barrel, will push a typical paintball out of the barrel at 600 feet per second.

Meaning you'll either get paint soup coming out of your barrel, or you'll have a paintball that will shatter a goggle.

I don't know much about physics, and I certainly have no "good numbers" here. Maybe some of you still in high school/college will crunch the numbers (as old as I am I still need a calculator to go past 10).
