I think the root cause is not whether or not we can tax people enough to pay for Govt healthcare. The problem is that unless the runaway costs of healthcare are addressed NO amount of taxes will be enough. Which is why medicare is going bankrupt... its not the amount of taxes they are bringing in but the cost of care. At the current rate Medicare will consume a full 20% of the entire federal budget in just a few years with no end in site to the runaway spending.

So yes we can tax people more and pay for just about anything but if the root cause of this problem isnt addressed we willl bankrupt the economy in short order.

The reforms that are needed are to address cost for healthcare. Once that is addressed the insurance portion of this could be addressed very easily with a market solution with very few federal regs.
