• So 20 odd managers in the premier league know less than us on here then as not one of them thought he was the answer. I hope Jay goes on to have an amazing career. But are we really going to have this bed wetting everytime he scores at a much lower level?   • It is impossible to say if he would have made it at premier league level as he wasn’t given the chance.Rap it up any way you wish but that is a fact.Not sure we were actually trying to move him on but all the pieces fell in place.Personally think he would have been another option.I have a night bag for the bedwetting.     • Well of course he was given the chance. Marco wanted him in the squad and opportunities would have come. Bottom line is that Jay lacked the self belief (or patience) to give it a go this season. As a result we don't know if he's Prem quality and I think that's a real shame but that's down to him.       • I'm inclined to agree with your view. I think he was sold a dream by the people at Birmingham City, and it looks like it has worked. Look at the crowds they are getting. I think Stansfield thrives on the adolation. He got that to the lesser extent at Exeter City. He obviously didn't think that would happen at Fulham for sometime.       • Kid had his father die, a lower-league footballer, when he was young. He was offered a 7 year, 45k a week contract. More than 16m total guaranteed earnings at a club that loves him, is being bankrolled for a quick push up the leagues and is the main club in England's 2nd city. I don't think that's got anything to do with a lack of belief in himself.           • I am absolutely saying that his personal history likely makes him predisposed to that kind of security for him (and probably his family) in a way that might sway an otherwise self-believing young football from dropping down so far. I believe that, allied to a gamble that Birmingham will, in two years, give him what he'd hope to achieve at Fulham in that timeframe - a Premier League starting spot - made it an easy choice for him.             • When a parent dies young through ill health, it's inevitable one might think that might be your own destiny. If that's so, then that can be a driver for wanting to do more sooner, rather than later. He hasn't got kids, so why would wealth be the primary driver?               • As someone who lost one parent in my early twenties, and the other in my thirties, i can absolutely assure you that it's not inevitable that you think like that. Everyone reacts to that kind of thing completely differently. For 10 years i had an overwhelming sense of wanting to do things/do them in a certain way that my mother would have been proud of me.     • by this 'logic' its impossible to say either of us wont make it as a premier league striker. Difference is he has actually been looked at on a day to day basis by a manager and his team and I would guess a few other managers too. Yet none decided he was worth the gamble, where as we are both unnoticed talents a await my call up.
