As a PS, You mentioned dental procedures. I have no knowledge of additional procedures during dental procedures. However, it might be significant to note that in the US a lot of kids under 12 are routinely give nitrous oxide, or "laughing gas" for dental routine dental exams and procedures, through a mask that fits the nose only. Also most American teens routinely have their wisdom teeth taken out when they are about 16, and deep sedation or intravenous anesthesia is usually given.
