(ooc: omg! voy's working! <='D about time, lol. xD)

"I don't know if I would agree with that statement. I think you are pretty attractive."

Max cocked an eyebrow slightly, a quizzical look on his face... did she just imply that if a lovely young woman like herself found him attractive it was perfectly possible for three big angry men to do so too? Unless she'd misunderstood him. If so, he decided not to tell her. He wasn't going to lie to himself and say he hadn't enjoyed hearing it from her, because hell, who wouldn't? But he wondered whether he should return the favour, out of politeness, or would that just sound weird? 'Hi, you're hot. Thanks, so are you'... no, that sounded odd. He decided for now he'd just play along. He was silly that way. "Really? Even like this?" he joked, comically striking a pose and running a hand through his hair as he turned his black eye towards her.

Max looked up as Midori's laughter abruptly stopped and she looked quickly down at the table. It wasn't rocket science to figure that one out. He lowered his voice to a more serious tone. "Just ignore them. Or I could go have a word, no problem." Max was quite ready to go give them a mouthful, but if she said no then he'd leave it at that. Although they were starting to get on his nerves. Have I turned into The Invisible Man or something? he thought to himself. And where was that coffee they ordered?

"Don't worry about it. Its not your fault that all the guys at work want to get in my pants."

Wow. He didn't feel like sounding like an insensitive jerk by saying "No, I guess not, but I don't blame them", because earlier on the thought had indeed crossed his mind, but it hadn't stayed around forever and after a while had moved on. To be honest he wasn't quite sure what his first-impression feelings towards her were; on the one hand yes, she was quite fine, and "sexy time" would be nice. But on the other hand, just having a friend, a buddy, would be even better; being in a foreign country on another continent halfway across the globe without a job and not knowing a living soul there... it got a bit lonely. But still, what an odd thing to say. He didn't really know how to reply to her. Yet again. After remaining quiet for a moment as he sat thinking these things, he realised he hadn't answered the lady yet. "I... don't really know what to say to that." Max said a bit uncomfortably, with a small half-hearted smile. Bad answer, yes, but honesty had a habit of doing that.

"Oh please kind sure, you are not poor."

Boy, was she in for a surprise. Alright, he wasn't exactly living in a cardboard box on the sidewalk sniffing glue, (not yet, anyway, he thought ruefully), but properly making ends meet was proving more difficult by the week. Max looked up as the waitress finally bought them their second round of coffee before disappearing back to wherever she was hanging around. He thanked Midori as she pushed his coffee over to him and he hastily picked it up, then turned his attention back to her comment. "Alright, if you insist. Remember then- no paying! Leave your wallet at home or something." he said, grinning into his cup of coffee as he took a gulp of coffee.
