She’d never looked for another man, especially not another lover. He’d been her first on so many aspects and despite his flaws she’d loved him. She wasn’t sure she could do it again, with anyone else, because despite all the things that had gone wrong? Laurie Ann had always kept up the hope. She’d busied herself defiantly, but in things other than romance, it’d been the joke of the school she’d be the old maid someday…so adverse to dating she’d been. On the modeling circuit things had been more difficult. She’d come back to Cascade knowing there was a photographer in town that could photograph her. She’d only do it though if money from the sale of the truck wasn’t enough to hold her over for the month in Spain she’d been planning. At his request to know when the wedding was Laurie Ann decided stringing him along wasn’t worth the tension she could feel mounting as with a light smile she started to answer, ”Well I…” at that second the white I-phone with a blue case vibrated in the cup holder. Snatching up the phone sapphire orbs scanned the device and the message it’d provided. It read: The boys are back in town. Call me as soon as you get this message – Angelina. Seems Angelina had made good on her promise, even if Laurie Ann had gotten a jump on the situation unintentionally. A quick text was sent back. I know. See you tomorrow - Laurie Ann. It was obvious that a girl's night would be needed soon, asap. ”Sorry, that was Angelina. I’m meeting with her tomorrow at the Club.” Why she felt the need to clarify she wasn’t sure, but perhaps it was to show that it hadn’t been the fiancée texting her. Looking out at the rain cascading across the Audi’s windows Laurie tried again to say what her phone had seconds ago interrupted. ”I’m hoping for a Summer wedding…but that really depends on what my fiancée wants.” She paused then and looked over to make sure he was watching her as she added. ”As I believe you were thinking of the Fall…last time we talked.” She didn’t say anything else; she’d already admitted her truth. It was his turn now, and she could only hope she wasn’t admitting this only to learn he’d come back to say goodbye. |
