Subject: Structure of the competition (Part 2)

This competition is a great game we all enjoy.

14 individual coaches, all with different ways they enjoy the game. All with different challenges and satisfying outcomes going on with their own sides.

Some coaches are not in agreeance with some of the ways things are dealt with in this competition. They have felt at times that they want to walk away. As you know, that is the headspace I was in.

Like the AFL competition, the hierarchy are there to make decisions, and fans pull their hair out with frustration as to WHY the AFL feel the need to wreck a good game. MRP decisions, Umpire changes or treating some sides differently to others in issues such as off field penalties and stuff like that.

Same is happening here to an extent.

I don't feel aggrieved by the Mods group, but the thinking has moved away from where I believe it should be. And other coaches are of a similar belief.

Highlighting this for me this week, is I attempted to go back to the way I believe things should be. I asked a question about this trade period AFTER the Draft. One Mod showed annoyance that there was a trade period PRIOR to the Draft, and words that suggested that it was pointless. The other two mods never commented on it.

I then took it to Vote. Like we used to do. McLachlan for MODS, PASSED the request for a Trade period, saying there was no need for a vote. Another Mod agreed, so apparently we have a Trade period. Like the 3 HO Ruck rule, it is actually in agreeance with what I think is good for the competition, so why don't I just take that win, and skip away, thinking that things are all good in the Superleague world.

STRUCTURE, that is why.

I went to vote to ask a fairly big question in the structure of our competition. The structure of our competition is made up of a number of moving parts. Those parts move, when already decided, or decided on at a particular time or event.

We are all in agreeance that Drafts happen AFTER other Drafts. Scores come in after scores come in on Fan Footy. It was even discusses that Fan Footy was our preferred way of getting our scores. SC over DT. Everything about this competition, is the way it is, because more coaches wanted it that way.

I don't recognize that MODS have any more of a right to steer this competition than any other coach. One comment from M42 was "I would have supported it". The Mods seemingly over looked the right of coaches to either support or not support the vote. Which is a highlight of the concerns of some coaches.

Madando and I are two coaches that have been here doing this game from day 1. Since 2004. 17 years. Not to be personal, and I don't want this to be seen as a personal insult, but I will use Brendan as an example. He has been in this comp for a lot less time than 17 years. Not sure how many exactly, but heaps less. But apparently, his vote in a small mods group, holds more weight than mine, or Madandos or MG77B, or Rob or any other coach that has been here all along.

That does not sit right with me AT ALL.

As I have indicated in previous threads, this is not the way I thought it was.

There is two parts to running this competition. One is the tasks that need to be done, for it to be run smoothly. If no one is doing the ladder, or doing a fixture, this competition stops.

The other part is the rules and regulations that are implemented.

I have never believed that three MODS, were in charge of implementing Rules. That in my mind, is NOT the case. The Mods are a group of people that volunteer their time to run the competitions TASKS. This is and has been a difficult job, and they must be commended for their work. It is appreciated by ALL coaches I think is fair to say.

A misconception is gaining momentum though, that a perk of being a Mod is being in a small group that makes decisions, that steers the ship.

We HAVE 14 people that CAN and SHOULD steer that ship.

What type of coach are YOU??????
The structure of this competition, is made up of personality's and these personality's differ. Just as they do in the running of their OWN side.

Why I bring this point up, is some coaches don't even care to have a vote in the direction of the competition. The bringing in of a rule. They are happy to follow along, and play the game by what ever way it is decided by all.

I recognize and respect that way of coaching. When votes go up, rarely do these coaches say anything. They are the ones that need to be emailed to get their say to be put across.

I believe EVERYONES opinion is valuable. 14 heads are better than 10, which is better than 6, which is better than 3.

I propose that we go back to a FULL DEMOCRATIC System. Votes are put up on ANY change to the comp. The ONLY way ANY CHANGE happens to our competition, is by Vote. Whether that be a rule, or a decision to have a Draft.

A TIMED vote period of say 4 days, be opened up and anyone who WISHES to vote, does so. Majority rules. If there is more coaches voting something in than not, it comes in. STRICTLY YES or NO Votes ONLY. Another thread is started for discussions on that Vote. This keeps it neat and allows coaches to simply have a vote, and not have to explain their reasoning if they don't wish to.

There is no reason this is not the most fairest way to run this competition. And given there are coaches that say as much on emails sent to me, there is coaches that believe the same.

I am all for putting any of these ideas to vote. I don't want anyone to suggest we put this on the back burner for discussion at the end of the season. I am bringing this up now, it is front of mind, and it doesn't stop us from playing this game as this is happening.

I am not sure about any other coach, but in the off season, I like a break. I don't want discussions always put off to these times. This competition is relevant in my life right now. As it is with all other coaches, because they are all active. At seasons end, that is not the case. Discussions, not put as a vote, but discussions, have been missed by coaches in off seasons too often.

If these changes effect the weekly running of a team, the vote of NO should be made, that this change is not made, due to the moving landscape of team setup unable to be considered DURING a season, I too would be voting against, but these changes, can be done at any time.

We can all try to put these things in one line questions for vote, and I will attempt to do that in the upcoming days. I will do so with the aid of any comments on this thread. ANY idea can be voted on, and a YES or NO result should be able to follow. Empowering EVERYONE in this comp to steer the ship as I said.
