You know as well as I do the media knitpicks a story to death until everyone is either sick to death of it or all up in arms. To name a few: The terrorist threats, sure, the FBI looked ridiculous saying "we don't know where, we don't know when...." but what makes that statement newsworthy? After a while, the public just becomes immune. Another thing: politics, jesus, they just sit around thinking up stupid things to say while live on the air.
