I think appointing someone makes perfect sense. And I'm sure if multiple people were interested there would have been some sort of "virtual competition" to decide a "winner".

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: She was disqualified, but it wasn't for cheating. She took a piece of her competition wardrobe from the dressing room to the hotel to clean it without getting approval. Once checked in, you're not supposed to do that. She didn't realize that, but it is her job to know the rules, which were enforced. The competition had already started. It was an awful situation and a painful lesson for her to learn, I'm sure. But let's not overstate what happened here. It was an honest mistake and the pageant acted with integrity to hold her accountable to the rules. It should be put to rest. It's not that serious.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: It is no little thing. It was a devastating consequence for the young woman. I think we as a society also need to consider the fact that there was no malicious intent behind the act. Rules are rules and Jordan was help accountable - but she also doesn't deserve to be canceled. Monique Evans was disqualified for having outside hair and makeup people at the state pageant - that is more akin to cheating. She was rightfully removed, came back, competed fairly (and wonderfully), won Miss Texas and had a great showing at Miss America. It is a story of redemption and forgiveness and not being canceled and I think Jordan deserves the same. We all do because none of us can pass a purity test. I'm rooting for her and think she can do very well!

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: People like you come to mind. Look, like the poster above said, she was not blameless. She made a mistake and was held accountable for it. The "history of bad behavior" sounds like a bunch of micro aggressive nonsense. She was never disqualified from any pageant in Oklahoma that I recall...in fact, she competed quite successfully as I recall, made top 5 or top 10 every year. The whole "bad behavior" trope is a purity standard applied to strong women and even more so to strong women of color who are expected to stay in their lane, toe the company line, be "manageable", and don't make too much noise. That we would ask ANY modern young woman to act like a 1950's sitcom housewife is why pageants have become a joke to people outside our circle. I have faith that Allison has a much different vision for Volunteer America and I think each of the inaugural state titleholders reflect the evolution of pageantry...and that certainly includes Jordan.

But as someone who clearly comes from the Oklahoma pageant system, it doesn’t surprise me one bit. The state isn’t known for being kind to Black titleholders, all of whom seem to get reputations for being “difficult to work with”. I think the problem is likely that o conscious and unconscious bias that is pervasive in a state that is best known for the mass genocide of native Americans. So, I’ll just file that in “commentary from a pageant dinosaur” file, roll my eyes and give you an earnest “Bless your heart.” 😘

Anyway, I don’t see anyone using a race card here. Someone pointed out a pretty well-known fact that women are subject to outdated tropes when it comes to being manageable and that standard is even greater for women of color. So unless you have the receipts to back up any claims on how egregious Jordan behaved in Oklahoma, have a seat, otherwise you just kind of sound like a jackass. Nobody said rays played a role in what happened to Jordan in New York… But when someone from Oklahoma comes on this board and starts coming for the girl… Well, Oklahoma has its reputation and it’s well deserved. I think the volunteer system is going to welcome Jordan, Michela and any other black delegate with open arms and I think they both are going to do quite well… Which is probably why you’re so pressed.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: Breaking the rules is not always the same thing as cheating. There are grey areas. For example (because it's the winter Olympics and I'm obsessed), in short-track speed skating, if a skater slips and bumps into another skater, knocking them off their line, the slipping skater is disqualified, even though the slip was unintentional and gave them no competitive advantage. In the case of Jordan, cleaning a competition garment is allowed - things get dirty during prelims and in the dressing room. But, candidates have to get approval to take wardrobe pieces out of the dressing room after they've been checked in - or they have to work with the hostesses to address the issue.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: From the sounds of things, Jordan just made an assumption that she could clean her garment - because cleaning was allowed. The problem was she didn't remember the rule and she didn't consider that the reason garments can't be removed is because candidates are not allowed to materially alter their wardrobe between prelims and finals - that could result in competitive advantage. This was not Jordan's intention, but the optics of the situation in light of the rules were pretty cut and dry. Super sad situation, but she certainly shouldn't be canceled for it. I can't wait to see her compete.

One of the best parts about Geometry Dash is its variety of levels. The game starts easy but gradually becomes more difficult, making it perfect for both beginners and advanced players. The physics-based gameplay keeps it interesting and addictive!

Some states just haven't been able to generate the interest yet (and in some cases, like GA, they have had to fight against a state MAO organization that appears to be actively trying to deter girls from doing Volunteer). Even MAO is having trouble getting contestants and is now allowing at large miss contestants (GA just announced this, before the local season was even over; which certainly could be seen as a "slap in the face" to those who competed). I thought this board was to support the Voluteer system? For the first year of a national pageant, having almost 50 state reps is remarkable.

[> [> [> [> Subject: It doesn't take anything away from the quality of the women who are competing. OK, NY, NJ for example all have strong talents, strong interviews, strong SS/gown - track records to back them up. The fact that some of these states are sending appointed delegates doesn't indicate there wasn't interest - it just means they couldn't find directors - and when you have MAO actively campaigning against the organization, it makes it all the more difficult. There is room for all systems. We need to stop actively trying to eliminate opportunities for these women because of our own egos and celebrate growth of opportunity.

Social media IS a big deal (in terms of garnering insight into individuals, not to mention, candidates). Adding in knowledge of candidate performance(s) from other state programs is a REAL WAY of identifying ‘possible’ top contenders!! People need to relax!!
