Here is where you bring your dragon to eat. There are fine herdbeasts and fat wherries and healthy bucks to prey upon. Most dragons eat two to four beasts, and eat every five to seven days. Younger dragons eat sooner and less. Hatchlings have buckets of chopped-up meat prepared for them. Generally, each bucket has a strip of color corresponding to the hatchling for which it's prepared, and each bucket is measured to fill a dragonet's belly. After the initial rush is over, Weyrlings must butcher and mince meat for their own dragonet themselves.

Very hungry -- Shrineth, 20:06:54 04/09/05 Sat
After leaving her rider at the Caverns, Shrineth takes to the sky and powers eagerly for the hunting grounds. She was starving after the escapades of the previous day, and the scent of herdbeast was driving her wild with hunger. An expectant rumble powers out from her throat and makes the air shiver as she circles and re-circles the grounds. The herdbeasts mill and low anxiously as the shadow of the dragon serpentines across their hides.
She wasn't as considerate as Wessae, she couldn't wait for Quilth before she started her hunt. But first, something that was quite fun for her. Diving low and lazily, she watches the panicked animals scatter and stampede as she rakes her claws over them, intentionally missing, tipping her wings and changing direction to scatter them in the other direction. Finally, her game over and her hunger taking precedence, she targets one and without hesitation or any grace whatsoever, she brings it down using the full force of her massive body to slam int into the ground and kill it instantly. Feasting on it takes the edge off the driving hunger, and she returns to the sky, circling easily and keeping an eye out. Another herdbeast is dispatched in much the same manner, and her second venture into the sky is less urgent and more relaxed. She'd be more than ready to start hunting anew when Quilth arrived, the empty stomach sufficiently slaked. After all she wasn't rude, just thinking. An inner instinct whispers that she'll need to stock up now, not only to help the eggs develop but also because it's a long time on the hot sands with no hunting access. Having "fostered" her mother's clutch, she knows that much. As she creates lazy patterns in the air, she warbles and trills her joy at flying, at clement weather, and at life itself.

>Well, we've got to do SOMETHING with them....< -- S'kar & Raskith, Smoke, Smidge; Gisella, Ren, Tev, 09:07:17 02/24/05 Thu
S'kar stands in a corner of the Bowl, staring down at three drained herdbeast carcasses. They aren't the queen's, though she and her suitors are flying high above him. No, Raskith and Massath had bitten these animals' throats out, and he and R'ven had drained the blood to add it to porridge already cooking on the hearth, so four newly-hatched watchwhers could eat. It's R'ven's sister who asked, and R'ven helped me prepare the stuff, so why isn't R'ven helping me deal with these? he thinks, a bit grumpily. Yeah, Massath isn't hungry, but neither is Raskith. In fact, the blue dragon is sunning himself nearby, letting a tiny blue firelizard smaller than S'kar's fist clean the blood from his muzzle and claws. Smoke, a bit hungrier than tiny Smidge, is nibbling at one carcass in the company of two other brown firelizards, but they're not making great inroads by any means. Turning towards the woman beside him, the slender, dark man gives her a sheepish smile. "Well, the watchwher hatchlings really needed it. And besides, I'm sure you can cook these up in no time to replace the porridge, right?"
Gisella is not amused. The middle-aged woman, coppery auburn hair caught up in a long braid, gives him a stern look. "I am not cooking those," she states definitively. "They've been lying out in the sun for three hours. Maybe if you'd told me when you'd come pounding in and carried off tomorrow's breakfast...." The Headwoman lets that suggestion trail off meaningfully, raising one eyebrow. "But as it is, they're not fit for human consumption. Feed it to a dragon, but you're not wriggling out of stealing breakfast that easily. When you're done dealing with them, come back to the kitchen and start working, bluerider. That's not negotiable." She might not be the Weyrwoman, but when it comes to matters of the kitchen, Gisella speaks with the unquestionable voice of a god. Any rider who annoys her is going to have to feed him or herself for the next sevenday - and she's actually borne out that threat, just to prove she will. Shaking her head at S'kar, she spins around and stalks off. Two identical brown heads rise to peer after her, and Ren and Tev cheep in unison. She bites back a chuckle. /Go ahead and keep on eating, little ones, at least until a dragon runs you off./ She can live without her little supervisors for half an hour or so.
Sighing dejectedly, S'kar leans back against Raskith's royal blue flank. As he ponders what to do with the dead herdbeasts, something that's been niggling at the back of his mind for a while finally comes clear. /Raskith. Did you talk directly to that wher-handler?/ he asks.
Yes. Raskith sounds faintly concerned as he turns his head towards his rider, earning an angry squeak from Smidge. She had her watchwher call me, but I couldn't speak coherently with the creature. She'll have to work on that with somebody. Massath, probably; she says R'ven is planning to visit her and set up a more stable method of communication. Then something about the tone of S'kar's question dawns on him. Do you mind?
/A little,/ S'kar admits, then rushes to reassure his dragon. /Don't worry; I understand it was an emergency. I just... I don't think you've talked to anyone else before, except R'ven./
Well, she's R'ven's sister. I thought it would be like talking to him. It wasn't, really, Raskith reflects thoughtfully. And I told her not to do it again unless she was hurt. But I liked the watchwher, and since she's R'ven's sister, if she was in trouble and I didn't help R'ven would be sad and Massath would be angry and I didn't want that. You don't want R'ven to be angry, either, he notes accurately.
S'kar laughs. /You're right,/ he agrees. /R'ven's my friend. It's all right for you to talk to Yima and her watchwher,/ he decides. Now, what to do about these herdbeasts?

Fooooood! -- M'att and Ashertith, 01:48:04 12/05/04 Sun
Still slightly dazed from the Impression, M’att was all but led by his dragon to the bowl. His dragon. He still couldn’t get his head around it. He had Impressed a brown. A brown. Ashertith.
The brown in question was at that moment inspecting a row of buckets, containing meat prepared by some helpful drudge. They were all labelled for greens and blues, but as the young man placed a blue-labelled one in front of his dragon, he reflected that one for a brown would most likely be too big.
This tastes nice! The small dragon told him, raising his head so that the blood from his mouthful dripped down his chin and neck. I like it! Do you want some?
M’att chuckled. ‘No thanks, Ash. You finish that yourself – my food has to be cooked.’
If Ashertith could have frowned, he would have. Instead he just shook his head in bewilderment that anyone would not want meat and went back to his meal. Who do you want me to meet? He asked, flexing his paws against the grassy turf as his muscles became accustomed to standing up.
‘Her name’s Synthis. She’s my friend.’ He didn’t want to go into the complexities now. With a shock to his system he realised that he technically outranked his best friend L’van, a blue weyrling from Kylith’s clutch.
Ashertith caught onto this last thought. Yes. I am brown. Did Synthis Impress Xiualith?
‘Was that her name? The pretty green?’
Yes. She is pretty. Do you think she’ll want some meat?
‘I’m sure she will! Now you take your time with eating that stuff – don’t be sick!’
((Synthis?))

Starving Brown -- N'deau_Riorth, 12:43:31 01/16/05 Sun
Riorth, let me get off first!
{That's what you get for making me wait so long.}
The brown dragon shifted his flight and glided to the ground. Once N'deau was off his back, he launched into the air, looking for a good heardbeast to attack. You could've at least given me a warning! The brown dragon ignored him. Figures. Then, the dragon swoops down and captures a nice heardbeast. He flies to a perch and eats. After three, the brown dragon returns to his rider. Have a nice haul?
{Very funny.}
Don't I know it. Hey, watch it!
The brown dragon had shifted, to get N'deau off balance, while the brown rider was trying to get on the brown's shoulders. Amused, the dragon waited for N'deau to get stiuated, then flew off to the perches.

I'm*Here -- Formely B'fen, now L'geri, 19:09:53 12/08/04 Wed
B'fen took his blue, Lagerith to the Perches. All of the other buckets were taken, dragonlings eating from them.
Langerith?
Yes, B'fen?
Could, could we change my name? 'Cause I don't like the way B'fen sounds.
First food!
B'fen took the last bucket, with a thick blue stripe, and set it in front of his starving blue.
B'fen?
Yes, Langerith?
How does one chew?
B'fen demonstrated by taking a slightly stale meatroll from his belt, and chewing it.
Now you do it
Langerith took a mouthful, and began working his jaws up and down.
It was a good thing that the bodies of the dead beasts had been drained, B'fen reflected, or Langerith would be covered in blood.
Do I swallow now? The meat is soft.
Yes, Langerith.
The blue quickly swallowed, and took another mouthful.
This time, he finished it off more quickly.
About my name?
Why do you want to change it?
It sounds, not like me. I mean, I don't measure up to what people would think when they heard B'fen.
What do you want to be called?
L'geri.
That sounds like you!
I thought so.
L'geri patted the still damp eyeridges of ihs dragon's grey blue hide, and patted one massive paw.
The blue polished off the last of his food, and fluttered his damp wings. The powerful wings sent a small breeze, and he pulled himself up from his almost laying down position. His long limbs were like pillars, supporting him.
I itch! And I want to sleep.
Don't fret, Langerith. We'll find the Perches, I'll oil you, and then we can choose a weyr.
Okay, L'geri.
The blue whose hide was the color of the sea at night when you looked down from a dock, and the tall boy whose hair was the color of glowing embers walked towards the Perches, bucket forgotten.
Lamgerith and L'geri, formerly Langerith and B'fen, were Impressed now, and nothing could tear them apart. They were two halves of one whole.
I can find my candle, where is the light? A red sun took me into this darkness, a blue dragon brought me out.

Finally....FOOD! -- Aylana and a hungrey Braunith, 15:37:06 12/08/04 Wed
The two entered, side-by-side, and as soon as the blue saw the food, he went ahead of his impresser. She laughed out right, and told him to go for a light blue bucket. He ate, and satisfaction was in her mind. She told him to slow down, and he did. Just then, her brown fire lizard Rune emerged from between, looking at Braunith with curious eyes. The blue lifted his head, blood dripping from his chin, and the brown fluttered towards the girls shoulder. He stayed for only a while, then dissapeared, yet again. She didn't mind, and while he finished up, she looked among the others. Finally, he turned away from the bucket and walked up to her.
{I'm done.}
She turned and looked in the bucket. It was empty. She smiled, and looked at her blue, her blue. He smiled.
{Yes, I am yours.}
'I know....'
They looked at the other weyrlings. He looked up at his rider, a little confused, but she didn't say anything. She just kept looking around.....

I Harilath. I hunger! -- M'telle - Harilath, 13:24:42 12/07/04 Tue
By now M'telle has.. ah.. come to his senses. He leads his Impressed down the flights of steps from the scorching sands, down unto the grassy expanse of the bowl's bottom. The grass is cool and dewy, the herdbeasts and wherries are milling uncomfortably away from the mostly-empty buckets and the few, small hatchlings. The night, dark; the stars, silver, gleaming. The blue.. small.. energetic.. imaginative.. beautiful..
Harilath looks at the metal containers and hunkers down, tail swishing in broad sweeps over the grass. His swirling eyes are wide and glistening with cobalt happiness, green amusement, and the pure yellow-red of hunger. In a sudden lunge, he pounces at the buckets, silent and wordless instructions from M'telle driving him to a blue-striped one.
Careful, my love, don't knock it over!
I won't, I won't..
Harilath's eyes light up and he trumpets a short laugh before burying his muzzle into the sweet-smelling meat. M'telle warns and dotes over his hatchling, strutting about the gorging dragon, inspecting the way he feasts. Oh, don't choke, my love, remember to chew..
Chew? Oh! Like.. this.. ?
The tiny blue angles his head up and begins to gnash his jaws. Bits of meat spray everywhere in a fine paste, and the rider brings his hand to his gut, looking a bit sick. 'Urg..' The fingers of the other hand paw at his lips as he turns away. S-something like that, I suppose..
Harilath throws his head back and creels brightly, nibbling for a moment on the calf of the young man, who grins weakly. When the blue finishes his meal, he plunks himself down and starts to loll about in the cool, wet grass, scratching the parts of his body he can reach. I itch, M'telle, he whines.
Don't scratch. Come, you need oil. I.. don't have a weyr, but I'm sure we've got one now that I've Impressed. Guess that means I need to move all my belongings..
He trails off. Harilath rolls onto his paws and pushes his rider a little. The young man smiles firmly. Yes. Wade through the lake on our way up, to get the, aah.. blood off.
Yessah! Marching, the little dragon moves to the water and does indeed let the blood of his gorging detatch itself in the cool eddies, before tailing his rider up to the weyrs.

"there!" J'ay said crossing his arms. "eat up!"
"ok!" the small blue said, his eyes glowing in happiness.
the blue slowey took a bite of the food, and many more till it was gone. "wow!...that was great!....i like this....food stuff!" Fabrizioth said, licking his lips.
"yeh you must also like to wear it on your face to" J'ay said, a small laugh escaping from his mouth, his dragon licking the rest off his face.

Yay! You did it! -- Z'rach~Dramatalith & Emma~Augusath, 10:15:04 12/07/04 Tue
By the time they reach the Bowl, Dramatalith has Z'rach by the arm and she's towing him toward the food. A dope grin plasters the boy's face as he allows his precious, precious green to move him.
Seeing a familiar outline, Z'rach's grin gets wider. "Emma!" He calls happily, matching his dragon's stride now. "Emma look! Look!"
Emma turns and beams, running to enfold the boy in a hug. "Good job, Zer! Or should I say Z'rach. Very nice, she looks like a beaut." She puts her hands on her hips and takes an admiring look at Dramatalith. The little green flares her wings and arches her neck, knowing that she's on display. "Not bad for a dragonet out of a green clutch, not bad at all. We're on break from plant gathering. Auggie needed a little snack. You did quite well, Z'rach, I'm proud of you."
Z'rach only beams shyly and scratches little Tali's eyeridges. "I'd better get her food. Thanks for taking me, Emma. And thank Augusath. It's the best thing that's ever happened to me, it really really is." He says genuinely. Emma nods in understanding as she goes out to her dragon. Z'rach turns back to his own and proceeds to feed her out of one of the buckets, grinning as she sits up and makes noises for a few pieces. Soon the pair is off to the perches for cleaning and a good nap.

Feeding... -- K'rea~Neroath, 19:05:55 12/05/04 Sun
((You have any idea how long it took me to get VOy to let this post?))
K'rea walked in slowly behind Neroath, smiling to himself as he admired the lovely hide, like lake's surface at night. They were the first pair of green Grenith's clutch.
Nero was a strong blue. He may not be the biggest, but he had power. That was certain. With an arrogent survey of the Bowl, he turned his many-faceted eyes to his Impressed.
{K'rea? What are you thinking of?}
K're smiled slightly. My mother. She's a bluerider too, you know. Maria of blue Myth.
{Pretty impressive. But, of course. You are a perfect bluerider.}
For a perfect blue.
{Naturally.}
K'rea, shaking his head, walked over to where the buckets were, and lifted one with a blue stripe on it.
Be sure not to eat too much.
{Of course.} Nero said, gently livking the meat a bit. Satified, he started to eat more vigorously.
K'rea stifled a laugh. "Silly blue. You'll stuff yuorself in no time."
{Not too much.}
"Ha." K'rea shook his head. "Anyway, I know exactly whcih weyr I want, if you like it."
{Where is it?}
"Next to Myth's."
The blue just gave a small snort. K'rea leaned against the wall, and just watched Nero. His dragon. His dragon...
{I am done.} the blue said smugly.
"You're also covered in blood."
{Which is why you will wash me now.}
"Of course."
And, with that, the pair left, making their way towards the perches, happiness filling their mind. K'rea would have to explain to the other 'brats later. Surely they'd understand...

HUNGRY -- Whoth, 13:46:37 12/02/04 Thu
An echoing scream shatters the still night and stirs up the herds of wherries and heardbeasts. Bronze wings bore violently down from the blackness of the upper weyrs, carrying with them a gaunt and very hungry dragon! Whoth cries out again, throat rasping with his need for nutrition, before scattering the wherries. He descends upon the largest one, hind talons sinking into its fatty back and crushing it to the ground. It puts up a fight, picking at the dragon despite its broken body, before Whoth can suffocate it with his fanged maw. The bronze gorges, messily - which is quite rare for him - yet wastes not a single sliver of fat or skin or bone. Hunger not sated, he rises and takes down another wherry, as well as two heardbeast bucks before his belly is filled.
Whoth tilts his head back, bloody jaws stretching into a languid yawn. He takes ungraceful strides to the rainwater lake in the centre of the bowl, wading into it and thrashing to semi-clean himself before further doting by his rider. Lumbering back out again, the dragon alights from the shallows and back to his weyr.

Golden Oldie -- Lilith, 05:42:52 07/17/04 Sat
Lilith hadn’t bothered to go between to get to the Bowl. She was too old to bothered with “all that nonsense” as she had once said. But you were never too old to eat, and she lazily flapped down from the sky to get her prey.
Her old, leathery wings bore her down on wandering breezes, and she moved without a sound until she was right on top of an unsuspecting wherry. The poor creature had no chance.
I have never lost my touch… The queen dragon thought smugly, after her elegantly golden muzzle was stained with the blood of three of the large animals. She looked herself over, saw a small crack in her otherwise flawless gilt hide, and took off towards the Perches.
A bath would be good…

Food!!!! -- Lily & Venieth, 10:44:39 02/12/04 Thu
Venieth’s forest-green hide rippled as her muscles moved beneath it. She glided easily to the Bowl, desperate to get rid of the hunger that assaulted her stomach. The green dragon swooped over the herdbeasts, circling lazily to single out an animal that was right for her. She dived down, her powerful claws grabbing a beast and breaking its back with one deft twist. She feasted on that one, and launched again from where she had been eating on the hillside, catching two more to fill her belly. Now stained with blood, she flew off to the Perches to have a good bath.

†...kill...† -- Shelli-Green Maeth, 19:38:42 02/10/04 Tue
†...Shelli slid down the smooth side of her dark green dragon. The smile on her face reflected her dragons joy at the oncoming hunt. Choose well, my love. With a final pat Shelli stepped back and turned so the dirt chured up by her dragons upheaval would not get the chance to sting her eyes. Don't i always? Maeth had the grace to sound offended as she hovered over the herds, causing them to cavort about wildly. What have I told you about playing with your dinner? You'll cause one to break a leg, then you'll have to eat it. Her tone was meant to be admonishing, but Shelli never could really manage to cover the love in her tone. Oh all right. With a small dive the green set her sharp talons into the tender hide of a runner mare, then her maw opened and with a sharp crack the life drained from the beast. Well done. Shelli had sat down, she had always been facinated by her dragons eating habits and could never understand why it grossed so many out. Maeth neatly split the stomach open and was surprised to find a treat, the mare had apparently been in foal, though no longer. The green quickly ate the unborn youth, then the rest of the mare before setting herself on one of the wherry bucks. After her third she settled herself down to cleaning. Delicately licking the blood from her muzzle, and each and ever talon...†

One muthah of a hungry dragon -- Shrineth, 12:31:48 12/18/03 Thu
FINALLY! Shrineth practically roars into the Bowl with the loud growl of one who is used to being obeyed. A few flits who had been coasting by are almost blown out of the air with her mental voice as she lands roughly on a cliff, clenching the rock with her talons.
The hungry queen watches the herds move below her with a voracity of a hungry hunter. Spying one large herdbeast moving away from the protectiveness of his family, she is suddenly diving , and quick as thought she pounces her quarry. Tearing into it with satisfaction, her contentment rumbles through the bowl and she rises again to knock down another, and yet another until she is so replete and stuffed that she must expend great effort to get back to her original vantage point.
As she lies half-dozing in the sun, she muses on when the Hatching Feast will be over, as she needs Wessae to clean her now.

Feeding time. Well, adults gotta eat too! -- Koryth, 17:21:15 12/04/03 Thu
The young green flies daintily toward the animals, which all spread out in fear of the circling dragon. She spots a fat buck, and glides down to it, inning it and eating heavily. It had been a few weeks since she last ate, so she was hungry again. she ate three other fat wherrie, tossing the carcasses aside for the flits. Then, she layed back in the sun, not too hungry anymore. She watched as the other dragons and dragonettes ate, feeling happy and peaceful.

The last hatchling -- Dey and Shyth, 12:24:11 11/30/03 Sun
The young girl, whom was seen a moment ago tear-stained and kneeling as she talked silently to the last of the fledglings, was now walking into the Bowl, without a sound reassuring her new lovely mate, the emerald she’d begged to survive. She led her Needy Desire on, whispering in a voice only the minute green could hear.
“My Shyth… Let us find the bucket.”
[] The what? [] The little green said, looking confusedly at her rider.
“Bucket. A container, with a hole, that holds food. It should be the very last in here, the last child, my beauty.”
[] This, you mean? [] The green talked to her in the same sad, mysterious voice that Dey herself talked in, as though the memories of her nearly lost impression haunted her. Thank the stars Dey was there… The little green held up the last bucket, marked with a green stripe.
“Yes, love, that is it. Your food. Now, eat. You need your strength, dragon mine.” Dey was now a picture of calm, but scared happiness, as though a bit afraid the emerald dragon would leave her like all the others…
[] I will never leave you, for I am yours, my Dey, my night. [] The dragon’s sweet thought brought her to reassurance. She had left the grounds not alone, but with her life mate, and a friend, Cat. Cat… she’d have to find that little brown lizard to send her a message… better yet, she’d find her friend’s weyr! But, not now. Her dragon was just as dependent on her as she was on the emerald.
[] I am finished. [] The green gave a draconic smile, and got up, blood all over her face from the food.
“Come, desire of my heart, let us clean you.” She rubbed her dragon’s bloody muzzle, and the itching stopped, Shyth giving a great sigh of relief. Then, the two left toward the Perches, ready to begin their forever friendship.

† Alone in the Dark † -- D'ris † Obitusth, 23:11:32 11/29/03 Sat
D'ris shuffled along, his hair turning a slight blue as he became exposed to the sunlight. Obitusth, his small bronze, walked beside him, his hide shining a golden-brown in the near-black mix. Opalescent eyes swirled softly as he creeled for food, even though he was a bit tired. Both stopped as D'ris picked up a bucket full of meat. He placed it in front of his bronze, and looked to his dragonet lovingly, watching him flap his wings before pouncing on his food. obitusth still couldn't fly, but he would more then likely be one of the fastest since he was the samllest, but there were a few big ones that were fast.
As Obitusth chowed happily on his food, D'ris stood there, silently looking around him at the other riders and weyrlings that fed their dragons either by bucket or by the herdbeasts that stampeded as a few dragons flew over them to pick their next meal.
One day, Obitusth would fly just like that, with his hide shinging beautifully and his wingspan spread out to the fullest, swooping down with graceful ease to catch his meal. But for now he was still a cute, still growing hatchling that just ate alot and slept alot. But he'd soon grow out of it to where he was like those mature fully grown dragons.
Obitusth lifted his wedge-shaped head that was the size of D'ris torso, and looked at him with clear satisifaction.
[Done. Can we go sleep now?]
[Sleep? but you just woke up!]
[Yeah. But since I can't fly or go between right now, eat and sleep seems to be the only option available, mine.]
[Okay, but don't become a lazybone when you grow up, okay?]
[Oh all right.]
Obitusth strolled beside his rider gracefully, still a bit of awkwardness showig in his steps. Being only five days old, he still couldn't fly and he still had a few misplaced steps, but not when he first can out, being the last hatchling to hatch and the smallest.
The pair slowly walked off, headed back to their weyr.

W00t w00t! -- T'velkan-Hedajanth ( Atahli and Guiel ) ... Velka-Kyankuth ( Leigam ), 11:49:14 11/29/03 Sat
A pair of dragons circle in the dusky sky just over the ridge. One of them is quite obviously a blue, with his noontime hide glistening with mottles of near-white. A brassy trumpet escapes the maw of the first full-grown beast, answered by the foamy seagreen other! Hedajanth makes a triumphant dive from his postition over the Bowl, talons extended as he plunges Pernborne into the group of milling herdbeasts. Robin's egg blue foreclaws rip into the spine of one bovine, blood splattering the terrified others, who immediately scatter. It takes just this one to polish off the blue's immediate hunger, and he gorges greedily upon the succulent flesh. The rider perched upon his shoulders gives the lustrous skin an affectionate pat, letting his Impressed feast as he wishes. T'vel then lifts his gloved arm in a wave to Velka, who's green surges forth into the herd and downs a prey animal for herself, and eats it in a most bloody fashion. It takes two more to finally sate the flirty Kyankuth. When she finishes, the green stumbles toward the blue and leans against him with a dragonian murr. The man laughs as his Hedajanth returns the gesture.
'Velka, if you don't stop Kyan from doing that, people will get the misconception that we're /Weyrmates./'
She chuckles and shout back to him, 'And why is that such a bad thing? You know that when she gets proddy, Heda's going to try and catch her.'
'You better not, partner.' That was directed to his blue. With a fond chuckle, the dragons sidle away from each other and push off into the pleasant evening. They'd missed the hatching doing.. things.. but they weren't about to miss inaugerating the new riders at the feast!

9 days old and flying! -- Nymah -- Felinth, 11:13:42 11/25/03 Tue
Nymah stood anxiously on the earth, watching her dragon. Felinth’s wings flapped slowly, painfully, as she built up enough resistance to fly. She pushed off with her powerful legs, launching into flight. The young dragon’s sunset-green wings propelled her through the air awkwardly, but she slowly became more graceful.
Circling the herd, her keen eyes picked out a small animal, just the right weight for her to carry. Pulling back into a dive, she grabbed the wherry in all four paws, and took it back to where her rider stood.
Burying her muzzle into the carcass, she enjoyed the taste of the fresh, hot meat. It tasted good. All the better that she had caught it!
Nymah flushed with pride at her dragon’s first flight. She put an arm around Felinth’s neck, sending her a wave of love. Well done, lovey! Shall we go to the perches?
Yes! I’m covered in blood. And I itch!

Of course! Let’s go to the Perches!

-A-Royal-Pairing- -- [Tsuga]{Alestiath}, 19:29:07 11/24/03 Mon
At the entrance of the gold and the person she'd chosen into the Bowl, there might as well have been dragons thundering their arrival. Tsuga strongly suspected that Tia had announced to all the young draclings there that they were on their way, for the second Tsuga's foot left the blistering heat of the Hatching Sands, all heads in the bowl turned on them, watching as they went to the largest bucket; the only one marked for a gold, and the dracling began to eat ravenously. Tsuga waited, thinking over what her Impression to the gold meant.
{You gonna keep your promise? Give up your hatred and bitterness, and stuff? Even towards Tr'ln?} [Y-you heard all that?] {Of course. I was in a shell; not between! You gotta talk to your son, too. He's here, ya know.} [And just how do YOU know that?] {It's a queen's job to know these things.} [You're not the queen yet, my dear.] {But I will be, someday. Might as well practice!}
Tsuga stood there, staring into space as she conversed with her dragon, thinking over what had been said between them. Her son was here? Trag? Much as Tsuga wanted to ask her gold what she knew of the boy, she couldn't even bring herself to think it, and found the silence stretching nearly unbearably between them, though it was a companionable one, as they finally left the Bowl after Tia had emptied the entire bucket set aside for her. So, Tsuga would have to keep her promises...At least she had a dragon, now, to help her...

FOOOOD!!!!! -- L'van and Arrth, 01:54:53 11/23/03 Sun
A young blue dragon stood, looking at the rows of buckets in front of him. L’van, his rider, laid a hand on the hatchling’s neck. Go to one with a blue stripe, Arrth. He told the blue. Arrth all but ran to his chosen bucket, dipping his head in and feasting on the contents. When every last scrap had been eaten, he lifted his head up, and gave his rider a blood-smeared grin, content.
Nothing better than food, matey. He said, gleefully.
How about a bath? L’van asked, his voice dry with humour.
Baths are good. Food is better.
Then we go to the Perches, my friend!
The hatchling sighed, and followed his new rider to the perches. …Why did I have to choose a cleanliness freak…?

=Disbelief= -- [Tr'ln]{Latroth}, 17:00:11 11/22/03 Sat
The man entered the Bowl, spying at once the many, many buckets set out. At Lat's prompting, he hefted one of the heavier ones - marked clearly for a brown - and set it down before the perfectly-shaped dracling, watching as he devoured every bit of the meat quickly, though by the time he finished Tr'ln imagined he could see every solid piece of meat bulging out against the dragon's young underbelly. At a sleepy yawn from the newly-hatched and still-damp creature, Traln walks towards the barracks, slowly enough so that the brown didn't have to rush, though the man found himself speeding up to keep pace with the hatchling's "lazy" strides.

Foooooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!!! -- Garneth, 09:19:36 11/18/03 Tue
The large bronze dragon emerged from between on a powerful downward wingstroke. He took a moment to look behind him for Rishanath, enjoying the feel of warm sunlight on his hide. He circled lazily above the herd, looking for suitable prey. Seeing a large buck, he shot downward, pulling up at the last moment, the carcass in his talons. After three more, he tossed the remains of the four bodies away for the fire-lizards, and landed on the hillside, looking for his companion.

Being nice -- A'rak~Kadoth, 20:28:58 11/10/03 Mon
Diving down in a steep arc, Kadoth levels out before hitting the floor of the bowl. Sliding from the riding harness, A'rak drops down while the dragon is still in motion. Giving the gigantic bronze hindquarter a pat as it sweeps over him, he heads to the task at hand while Kadoth peruses his hunting options.
"Velvet, you little...nice job." A'rak amends, seeing a fishroll dangling from the blue's muzzle. He must have blinked into time right in the platter of fishrolls, as he smelled heavily of fish and parts clung to his hide. "You nearly got us brained by that cook though, you know."
Tucking his head against his neck, Velvet murmurs and trills before noticing a bucket already made up for a brown dragon. With a sharp whistle of delight, he dives headfirst into it and begins eating. "He'll sleep until the next Pass if he eats that," A'rak marvels at the corpulence of his little flit before turning to his task once more.
A large haunch of runnerbeast sits on a chopping block, and taking a heavy, thick meat cleaver, the young man begins chopping methodically, the pieces going into a bucket with a blue strip on it. "Blues...not too much. The queen'll be something to feed," he murmurs to himself as he works.

"Yes, Bea, just remember to eat." Jara remarks placidly as her dragon gulps and chomps eagerly, small tail sliding along the floor in her utter delight.
After about a half hour, the little green burps and toddles back to her Impressed, gently headbutting the knees. "You need to get cleaned up, young one." Jara says decisively, and this time SHE leads the way to the next stop, the perches.

Yummies. ^_^ -- R'jari and Maeroth, 13:33:19 11/21/03 Fri
Both hatchling and rider make it into the Bowl with encouragement on both parts, and relatively few bumps, trips, or falls along the way.
The young bronze laughs quietly, a soft trumpet. Were you supposed to walk up those... What did you call them... stairs! Yes. Were you supposed to walk up the stairs face first?
R'jari rolls his eyes, his hand still rubbing the unfriendly looking bump on his forehead... and promptly changes the subject.
"Need to find the buckets..."
Maeroth's bronze face tilted to the side quizzically... and R'jari needed no prompting to answer a question. "Round, with a hole in them... they've got the food in them."
The hatchling nodded quietly, watching his rider with eyes that swirled between a hungry yellow and an amused green. Maeroth waited a few minutes before finally nodding towards something that at least... smelled promising.
Are those the buckets?
R'jari smacked his forehead, and then winced... and promptly started laughing. Again, he recieved the confused look from his lifemate. "Eh... don't mind me. But do come this way."
Fair enough.
The lanky hatchling wandered cautiously over to the bucket with the bronze stripe that his rider stood beside, poked his nose inside... and then instinct took over. He began to devour as much of the meat as fast as possible, gulping down large pieces with incredible speed, and showering blood all over his face, his rider, and probably some of the unfortunate riders around them.
"Slow down 'Roth! Chew!"
The bronze paused a second in his eating, as two gentle hands pulled his muzzle carefully out of the bucket. He swallowed the last morsel and eyed R'jari silently.
Chew?
"Chew."
How does one... chew?
R'jari looked surprised for a moment, and then with an offered arm, called down the smallest of his firelizards... Green Vylla. Carefully offering her a bit of meat from his pocket, the tiny female delicately chews her food. Ryu points carefully at her jaws as they work the food into something digestible... and then swallows. A cast of his arm and Vylla is aloft once again.
"That's chewing."
Ah.
Maeroth lowers his muzzle back into the bucket... but slowly this time. Carefully he takes a bit of the meat and chews it carefully... and continues chewing it... and continues chewing it... and.. It's losing it's taste R'jari. When do I swallow?
"Oh! Uhm.. when it's soft I suppose."
Alright.
The hatchling swallows... and takes the next piece of meat the same way, but swallows much sooner... and promptly offers his rider a bloody draconic grin.
I think I've got it.
"Me too... Now you finish that bucket."
Gladly.
A few minutes later, stomach visibly full, the bronze dragon eyes R'jari... slightly uncomfortable. But the red-head knew that with out the dragon saying a word.... The boy felt it within himself.
"Off to the Barracks we go."
Hmm?
"To get clean, and to stop the itching."
Oh. Good.

Felint's First Feed!! ((Nice alliteration there, don't you think so?)) -- Nymah and Felinth, 06:26:27 11/16/03 Sun
The hatchling walked gracefully, her russet-green hide rippling as she moved. Next to her walked Nymah, her rider.
Which bucket is mine? Felinth asked, searching among the rows of pails, each filled with meat. Bending, Nymah hefted a green-striped bucket and set it in front of her lifemate. Hatching is hard work!
It must be. Nymah admitted fondly, caressing Felinth’s eye ridges. What else could give you such a big appetite? She shook her head as she watched the dragonet devour the meat with vigour.
After voracious eating, Felinth raised her muzzle from the bucket, covered in blood. Where to now? She asked, her eyes slowly whirling.
To the Perches. Came the reply. We need to clean you up!

Yum... -- Liraz~Gaiath, N'van~Sleipnerth, 17:26:56 11/15/03 Sat
Liraz quickly passes N'van and His on the way to the buckets. Gaiath is so hungry she can't wait and begins to shove aside several buckets with her nose, searching for a green-striped one. When Liraz finds two, she brings them back and her dragonet immediately dives into the first, knocking it over and spilling the contents onto the ground, where she continues to root around for scraps after Liraz is through feeding her.
Sleipnerth is more dignified, and looks askance at her sister. "Thanks, Liraz." N'van says, grinning at her and accepting the profferred bucket. His hatchling, rather than diving in, takes time to savor each bite.
Stunts like that can wait for later, but this is really good...

>~< -- K'vren & Notusith, 20:15:42 11/10/03 Mon
By the time they reach the Bowl, K'vren is moving at a swift jog, Notusith scrambling along behind him. The blue's hunger drives them both to a faster pace than the young dragon can really handle over rough ground, and they have to slow long before they reach the buckets. Fortunately, they're not delayed, and K'vren knows exactly what to do with a hatchling. Finding a bucket with a blue stripe on it, he brings it over to Notusith, setting it before his beloved blue. "There you go. Dig in, Notusith," he says, smiling fondly as the dragon promptly buries his head in the bucket.
Thank you! Notusith exclaims, as grateful as if K'vren had chopped the meat himself. I was so hungry.... And this tastes so good! He finishes fairly quickly, licking the bowl clean, and then licking as many scraps off himself as he can reach.
"C'mon, Notusith, let's get you clean," K'vren laughs. "We'll use water and soapsand. Much more efficient!"
Looking up, Notusith tilts his cyan-striped dark head. Really? But where? he asks curiously.
"I'll show you!" K'vren says encouragingly, setting off towards the Perches. His dragon springs to his feet and follows quickly behind.

Finding one with a bronze strip on it, H'rrison drags it and lets it go with a plop in front of the hatchling. Without further ado, Fordth digs in, rumbling his satisfaction.

Her movement in the sky was serpentine, graceful. Many-faceted eyes scanned the ground, and focused on a wherry. Diving, Venieth took the huge bird by surprise, breaking its back with a twist of her talons. Two more wherries followed the first, and she cast the carcasses aside for the fire-lizards. She flew slowly away to the Perches in anticipation of a bath.

Rising, he lifts the squirming, injured herdbeast, then drops it into a stone ledge nearby. This is Ulyssanth's favorite way of hunting his meals; little fuss, and he's never minded the mess. Landing beside the herdbeast, he quickly devours his meal, returning for two more before he's done. When he's finished, his dark tan hide is liberally streaked with blood; resigning himself to a bath, the brown takes wing again, heading towards the Perches.

FOOOODDDD!!! -- Leth, 07:30:29 07/23/03 Wed
The deformed brown erupts into warm air from the blackness of between, abnormally long tail streaming behind his well-built frame. With one flap of broad, powerful wings, Leth soars over the herd, scattering them with his shadow. As his shadow flickers and disappears, the brown blinks faceted orbs and looks upwards at the storm clouds gathering above. Rain again, he mutters to himself, feeling his lifemate stop searching for the missing weyrlings. A little mental pressure elicits the reason -- some girl and some flits. The brown chuckles, folding his wings to his flanks and diving without particularly picking out a target yet. Talons sweep forward and jaws come down to crush a herdbeast, several downsweeps removing the dragon from the area and allowing him to shred most of his kill mid-air. Finishing, he drops what's left of the carcass in a little corner of the Bowl for flits to enjoy, then wheels easily back to the main herd. Another big one should be enough for him now, and Leth spots the perfect dinner. Two strong flaps and he's soaring with some speed, and then diving far faster. Using the same combination-attack as before, the brown snatches the bull into the air, settling on a ledge above the herd to feast.

>Food< -- Massath, 09:39:51 07/09/03 Wed
Rumbling softly, Massath wheels over the Bowl, eyes on the herdbeasts. Diving suddenly, the big green pins a particularly fat one to the ground, neatly snapping its spine before hauling it away to consume. Two more of its herdmates meet the same fate before she's full. A light touch against R'ven's mind tells her he's communicating with someone; deciding against asking for a bath right now, she flies up to the heights and settles down. The warm sun quickly makes her drowsy, and soon the green dragon is fast asleep.

Lifting the dead herdbeast, he drags it to a secluded spot to eat. A bronze firelizard appears, chirping excitedly and preparing to dive on the herdbeast as well. Caphoth raises his head and snarls at it. ~Mine!~

A large bronze soars across the bowl, fixing herdbeasts and wherries alike in his somewhat chilling, if fleet, shadow. Hungry from ferrying three people around all day, he gives a muted rumble and dives for a large bull herdbeast. One clean snap of its neck fills Hakath with satisfaction as he drags the beast to a nearby ledge to rend and eat.
Once that beast is taken care of, he picks off another, this one a bit smaller and quicker to sharpen his skills. Letting it dodge first one and then another way, he spooks it into leaping straight into the air before finally catching it in his jaws and eating it in midair. After one final kill, he zooms lazily back to the sun heights of the Lower Caverns to await the completion of the feast.

Now at 8 days[real time] Venieth was learning to fly, & what better time to practice when hunting. Her scales were green, so she cept lower, hidden in the trees, watching & waiting as the prey wonders aimlisly & unknowingly by. She took the moment with quickness seizing a beast, & dropping the now almost paralyzed bloody carcuss, then grabbed another. Venieth had joy in those slits for eyes, and she began to eat. Lily smiled, looking around & breathed in the fresh air. She loved it on tis island, full of kind people, dragons & adventure. Though she had a saddened but eager look on her face. Just 13 more days.

FOOD... mmmm. XD -- Leth, 21:57:18 03/07/03 Fri
A large brown erupts from the blank nothingness of between with broad wings spread. Leth glides smoothly over the 'beasts, who stampede at the touch of his foreboding shadow. Rapidly whirling eyes are almost completely scarlet with hunger, but the brown makes sure his rider begins eating before he does; if draconic hunger pangs subside, R'nos usually ignores his own and doesn't eat. If one were to look closely, they would notice that this brown is actually somewhat deformed - an abnormally long tail is all that betrays his mother as a green, not a gold. But this hinders not the dragon, who slips into a silent and speedy dive towards a particularly large buck. Sinking talons into its spine, Leth wolfs down the food, and then rises to hunt and consume two more before feeling sated and surging upwards into the air to find a nice place to sun himself.

Yawning, a brown hatchling wanders in after him. ~Well, we needed to be here anyway. That Feast.~
"Right, Ulyssanth," D'minic admits. "And we're the first here- no, the second," he corrects himself, seeing another brownrider in the corner.

>~< -- Raskith, 19:14:29 03/07/03 Fri
A large blue dragon appears from between and circles above the pens, considering the beasts below. Then he makes a choice, diving suddenly to snatch a wherry from the ground. Swiftly snapping its neck, he lands and makes short work of it, then rises for another. And another. Finally sated, the blue leaves the Bowl.

~Food~ -- R'yu and Favrianoth, 19:17:20 03/06/03 Thu
~The male led the blue to a stray but filled bucket, content to stand and watch while the blue ate. Shoving his head as far into the bucket as his neck would allow, he gulped down all that was there. The bucket tipped on its side and the blue followed it around for awhile, furling and unfurling his wings. R'yu laughed and caught the runaway pail.~
I believe you've had enough
Alright then
Come one, we'll go clean you up before the feast starts
Yes! More food!
~He smiled once more and the pair started off towards the Perches.~

Yumsh. Short 'n cruppy. -- Velka-Kyankuth, 14:38:00 03/05/03 Wed
Skipping around her lifemate, the green springs into the area, her tenacious grey claws barely damaging the emerald grasses and rich black soil. A clever hatchling, she springs right over to a green-striped bucket and gorges greedily upon its contents. Velka laughs at the hatchling's trilling antics, hands clapping together. Kyankuth trots back to the girl, butting into her knee and emitting a peal of dragonian laughter. The pair are gone soon after arriving, two slightly-rounded frames dancing off with the ambience of grace.

>~< -- D'minic ~ Ulyssanth, 16:48:24 03/04/03 Tue
Reaching the bowl, D'minic quickly locates a brown-striped bucket and carries it over. Ulyssanth sits on his haunches, regarding the bucket with definite interest. Before the brown hatchling can reach for the meat, D'minic grins and pulls out a chunk, tossing it at his dragon. Ulyssanth jerks back in surprise, but easily catches the meat in his jaws. ~Do that again!~ he urges as he swallows.
It quickly becomes a game, D'minic trying to get a piece of meat in Ulyssanth's mouth, and the dragon catching every bit. Both are dirty and bloody but laughing by the time the bucket is empty. Still chuckling, D'minic leads the way to the Perches, followed by his indignantly protesting dragon.

>~< -- Massath, 07:56:08 03/01/03 Sat
A green dragon appears from between, hovering over the herdbeasts. In one swift dive, she captures a panicked animal, scooping in up and carrying it off to the side. A powerful jaw slams shut on the spine, and the herdbeast quickly dies. Crouching over her kill, Massath quickly devours it, then takes to the air again. Three more herdbeasts are quickly caught and consumed, as the green eats for the first time in a sevenday. Her meal finished, she steps to the side to watch the latest hatchlings eat. As the bronze leaves, she wanders off, her full belly keeping her from the sky.

WOOT, Foood! -- K'mar and Kigoth, 13:36:45 02/28/03 Fri
With the oddly sturdy step of a bronze hatchling mixed with the of the purposeful stride of the lad beside him, the newest pair of lifemates manage to make their way into the Bowl. K'mar's hand is now firmly placed over his stomach, where the odd pains have started to truly sink in, as Kigoth's hunger grew. With a loving rub behind an eyeridge, the boy picks up his feet to grab a bucket of food with a bronze stripe on it, peering inside to be assured of it's contents; and then silently whispering a thanks to whomever'd already cut up the meat. Placing the bucket before Kigoth's fore-claws, the bronze takes a deep whiff of the food, then begins to dig in, muzzle scooping up the food like a vacuum.
And then K'mar realizes that Kigoth's jaws aren't moving. And he panicks.
"Dah! CHEW!"
Hrm? The bloodied muzzle raises, swallowing the last bit of meat before tilting confusedly. K'mar slaps his forehead with the palm of his fist.
"You chew, watch me." K'mar moves his jaw up and down in a pantomime of ripping and tearing. Kigoth nods with a grin, soon resuming his gulping... only slightly slowed with the new chewing sensation. A few minutes later, sides bulging slightly with the obvious showing of meat, K'mar wraps his arms around the broad shoulders of the bronze and forces him away...
"I believe you've had enough Kigo."
I suppose. A pause, and then eyes whirl yellow with the unpleasentness of discomfort.
I itch.
K'mar's eyes widen as his own body tingles slightly... he thinks fast, and leads his Dragon in the direction of the oil and bathing.
Kigoth looks

Food and food and food is good. -- A'dro~Soleurth, 10:13:07 02/28/03 Fri
The quiet, reserved click of talons heralds the arrival of Soleurth and seconds behind her comes her rider. The pair, already setting patterns for later life, exchange no words, merely head for the designated hatchling feeding area.
A'dro pushes the bucket with the green strip in Soleurth's direction as Pocket hovers over the boy's shoulder, trilling his excitement. Soleurth eats quietly, her teeth making short work of the crunchy scraps of meat. Full. Her rich contralto voice hums to him and with a nod he walks with her to the next destination, a good oiling.

Mmmm....Fooooood -- Emma~Augusath, 10:08:24 02/28/03 Fri
Prowling into the Bowl, Augusath noses around the buckets to find hers, rumbling and mrring as she does so.
"Take it easy, love, I'll find you yours." Emma assures the youngster, hauling up a green striped bucket and presenting it to the small dragon. Eagerly she digs into her food, splashing scraps and blood everywhere in the process.
Done. She remarks at last with a quiet sigh and a contended snort. Bath, I need a bath. Nodding and grinning, Emma walks with her dragon to the Perches.

Yummity yum yumyum? -- Gr'mbeldym-Iokath, 18:17:29 02/27/03 Thu
Sticking close together and moving with measured strides, the pair of them trot in. The human one peers at all the buckets about; most are tipped over and empty. After gazing between the bronze and the brown and deciphering which was which - because, let's face it, Gr'mbeldym isn't the sharpest arrow in the quiver, nor does he have very good eyes - he urges his Impressed toward one of them.
Please, eat up, I want you to be perfectly happy.
It's okay, ridermine. I'm happy just knowing I've found you.
The brown peers at his lifemate, embracing the boy with his proportionally-small wings and emitting a gentle croon. 'Speaking' no more, Iokath moves toward one of the correct pails and gorges hungrily upon its contents. Unlike the impulsive bolting of the other hatchling, this one takes the time to right the bucket and lick it a bit clean, before heading out to the perches with rider closeby.

~Ah, food~ -- Elaini and Rishanath, 18:12:05 02/27/03 Thu
~Elaini quickly located a green striped bucket from the lot of them, owing to the fact that green and blue seemed quite plentiful. She placed it in front of the green. Without delay she plunged snout first into it, devouring the meat ravenously. The femme yawned a bit, lack of sleep combined with the downward spiral her recent adrenaline rush had taken finally taking its toll on her. Rishanath laughed and the sound echoed in her mind as the dainty green nudged her; she promptly stumbled, catching her balance quickly while yawning once more.~
Naptime?
Quite soon, yes. We need to get to the Barracks before I pass out and fall over.
I'd catch you, but I am warning that I may tumble as well.
You've BEEN sleeping
Cracking a shell is very tiresome.
I see, well, let's go then
Okay
~WIth a small, tired smile Elaini started off towards the Barracks. The agile green continued behind, easily matching her lifemate's stride with her own floating gait.~

>~< -- Talla ~ Mylanith, 16:24:56 02/27/03 Thu
-Well, this makes things simple,- Talla observes, quickly locating the only gold-striped bucket. She sets it down before Mylanith, who dips her head in and begins eating ravenously. -Tell me if you're still hungry when that's gone, I'm sure we can sort something out.-
~That was just the right amount, actually,~ Mylanith observes a moment later, pulling her golden head out of the bucket. She yawns, blinking at Talla. ~Can I sleep now?~
-You need a bath first, you're a mess,- Talla announces. -But then, yes, we both need to sleep.-
~A bath? All right. The quicker it's over, the sooner we can sleep.~ The hatchling queen follows Talla from the Bowl, stepping carefully after her rider.

It only takes N'ris a minute or so to locate a brown-striped bucket from among the bunch. -Found one, Roventh!-
~It was difficult?~ Roventh inquires innocently as he buries his head in the bucket.
-Er... no....-
~Good.~ Raising his head from the empty bucket, Roventh blinks slowly at N'ris. ~I'm done.~
-Already?- Setting aside the bucket, N'ris sets off towards the Perches.
~I was hungry.~

Foodity food foodfood! -- T'velkan-Hedajanth, 19:21:57 02/26/03 Wed
A sky blue creature trots in, not bounding like the other, merely holding his head high and moving forth with an arrogant grace. His newly Impressed walks in his wake, all smiles and still caressing the mind of the young dragon. Hedajanth murrs quietly, spinning around to butt his rider in the legs affectionately before striding to one of the blue-striped buckets n quickly chomping through the contents. A dragonian burp escapes his mottled snout, which scrunches into a grin for T'velkan.
Done ALREADY? I think I've Ipressed a piglet!
A most lithe and beautiful blue piglet.
Well, of course!
The boy laughs, running his hand over the hatchling's knobbly head. Both of them stride for the perches.

~*~Food! NOW!~*~ -- X'thrall~*~Golgith, 05:37:03 02/26/03 Wed
The boy enters with his blue, the radiant smile still broad on his face. Snatching up a bucket with a blue strip, he sets it before his perfect little dragon. The glow dims somewhat at the sight of the blue eating, but it is soon over. Shaking his head in mock disgust at the mess the little one has made of himself, he chuckles. "Let's get you cleaned up." The blue looks up at him and nods, obviously thinking that was a very good idea indeed.

>~< -- D'rai ~ Sengaloth, 04:06:21 02/26/03 Wed
As they enter the bowl, D'rai looks around for the buckets of meat. Quickly locating them, he calls Sengaloth over. -Sengaloth! There's food here!-
The blue turns away from his slightly worried regard of the herdbeasts and rushes over. ~Good, I was afraid I'd have to chase down those creatures.~
-Nope. Let's see, here's one with a blue stripe....- He sets the bucket before Sengaloth, who practically pounces on it in his haste to eat.
The blue licks the bucket clean before raising his head again and regarding D'rai with slowly-whirling eyes. ~What now?~
-You're a mess.- D'rai has to stifle a laugh at his dragon, who has blood and a few scraps of meat smeared across his muzzle. -So I need to bathe you and oil you. Then we can find a weyr and get some sleep.-
~Sleep sounds good,~ Sengaloth agrees, ~But I wouldn't mind a bath either.~
-Then follow me.- D'rai sets off for the Perches, his blue in quick pursuit.

Foood, glorious FOOD! -- C'shar~Nagoth, 09:03:45 02/22/03 Sat
Nagoth scuttles purposefully into the Bowl, eyeing the larger herdbeasts with excited eyes. Ooooh. He comments before C'shar places a bucket with a blue strip in front of him. Forgetting all about the moving, living prey, the blue buries his muzzle into the bucket, though he gets so eager that his hind end flips up. For one teetering moment his whole weight is supported by the bucket, before he and the meat go spilling tail over snout, the chopped up bits spilling everywhere. Unconcerned, Nagoth snags up bites from the ground, eating them in predatory jerks of his head, teeth flashing happily.
"Done yet, Nagoth?" C'shar asks a little later. The blue looks up, his eyes a pure, whirling shade of the icy sky as he gives a definitive nod.
Ih. He affirms, causing the boy to laugh again.
"Are you making all that up?" He asks, referring to the odd little words Nagoth speaks.
Ih. Another firm nod of the blue head before the laughing young man leads his lifemate to the Perches.

T'ri enters, closely followed by Tammie. With a radiant grin gracing the faces of both, T'ri goes to a bucket with a bronze strip, and Tammie to a green. They watch lovingly as the two hatchlings fill their bellies, then both rise, embracing eachother before seeking a bed.

...Feeeed Me!... -- Sitara :|: Kilanakath, 22:13:53 02/21/03 Fri
The beautifully, exquisite green trots eagerly into the Bowl, not missing a step. She was already quick on her feet, as big as any blue, and smarter as well. She is also, Sitara laughed quietly, Very, very hungry. Sitara runs ahead of her companion, totally commited to finding the correct feed bucket, and selecting one with a green stripe began to trot back to Kilanakath. But, she paused, for Kath was just as big as any blue...would she need more perhaps?
This is fine. I am hungry. I want to sparkle. Kath says eyeing her rider contentedly.
Sitara smiles and brings the bucket down and places it in front of Kath, who wastes no time and plunges head first. Sitara kneels next to her life-long companion, for she has no regrets, and rubs her eye ridges with soothingness. Kath licks the remains of the bowl and gurgles soothingly, then began to lick her lips.
I am a very clean dragon. Kath confirms.
"Yes, you are, and you are very beautiful. You are the best of both worlds. You see here?" Sitara points under Kath's wings, "Do you see the gold? That is because you are special. And I love you," Sitara smiles and continues to rub Kath's eye ridges. Kath bent her agile neck to look under her wings at the brilliance of green and gold. Her azure eyes glowed with the attention Sitara was lamenting upon her.
I am special. And everyone knows it. Kath stated proudly. Sitara could only smile and nod, as she awaited Pemilo to be Impressed and come to the Bowl.

Z'ni leads his excited dragon into the Bowl. Jesaketh looks a bit doubtfully at the running herdbeasts, then jerks her head up to stare at Z'ni when he drops a green-striped bucket in front of her.
-It's food. Cut up, just for new-Hatched dragons,- he smiles.
~Yay!~ Jesaketh needs no more urging to dip her head into the bucket.
Z'ni watches happily as the energetic green devours every last bit of the meat, even licking the sides of the bucket. -I think it's gone, Jesaketh. We should be moving on.-
~Sleep?~ she says hopefully.
-No, first a bath, then sleep.-
The green looks faintly disappointed, but follows her rider out of the Bowl.

Fooooood -- A'lan~Hroth, 18:26:20 02/21/03 Fri
The brown trundles eagerly into the bowl, eyeing the herdbeasts and even charging after a wherry halfheartedly. A'lan laughs and heads for the buckets which the *considerate* goldrider had helped prepare.
"Alright, lessee, you, my friend, you are a brown. So here, here is your food." Shoving a bucket towards the hungry brown, hands are placed staunchly on hips as A'lan gazes proudly at his lifemate. It felt so wonderful to have another part of his soul, to finally be complete.
Good food. Makes me nice and shiny. Hroth confirms as he works on the bucket.

Yum yum, eat it Tum, it'll taste like butter rum (Umm...who's Tum?) -- Wessae~Shrineth, 14:12:36 02/21/03 Fri
Shrineth detours from her course to the Hatching Sands, landing and kindly asking her rider to depart. Sliding down from her dragon's side with a sigh, Wessae whistles for Doe, who zooms to a perch on the young woman's arm as Shrineth backwings into the air. "As if she doesn't eat enough already." Wessae stage whispers to the green flit.
I heard that. Shrineth says with a flick of her tail before she is off, crunching the first herdbeast to the floor and tearing into him. Wessae sighs, it was so boring to see Shrineth hunt, because she took her sweet time when eating. I have to be a lady. The gold reasons as she nibbles daintily at her second meal. Snorting in disbelief, Wessae rises and strolls around as her dragon feeds. She might as well help out a bit, she reasons as she looks around at the buckets.
"Take your time, Shrineth." She says distractedly as she grabs a blade and begins hacking up meat to dole into the buckets. The activity makes her aware of the impending hatching in a way the visit to the sands had not done, and she smiles to herself. Hatchings brought more werylings, and that brought more people to the desolate Weyr.
But the gold won't be as pretty as me. Shrineth assures as she eats. Laughing brightly, her rider sieves meat into a large bucket with a bronze strip on it. Suddenly, a weight lands on her other shoulder, causing Doe to shrill disapproval.
"Buck! Sweetheart, what's a matter?" Wessae asks as she sees the slightly dejected droop of the brown's wings and neck. When the image of the lost flight is made clear, the young woman tuts sympathetically and offers a bit of the meat she had been chopping. Taking the meat with a small coo, Buck earns a nuzzle from his sister Doe before he settles down for a nap. Twenty minutes and five buckets of meat later, Shrineth announces her fullness.
Why're chopping that stuff anyway? I thought that was a job for non-riders. Shrineth remarks curiously as Wessae swings aboard.
"Well, you are a gold, I am your rider, there are responsibilities to be dealt with, m'love. Felt like helping out." With a trill, the flits disappear between and Shrineth follows suit a few moments later, once she's in the air, of course.

A hunting we must go, A hunting we must go, Hi Ho the Dairy-O... A hunting we must go! -- M'kir and Seleth, 12:43:27 02/15/03 Sat
With a bugling scream to wake the dead, the lithe Seleth flings herself from between to the ground with startling ferocity... Pinions fold back against a viridian back, and both Dragon and Rider appear to merely fall from the sky... then seconds from the ground, wings flare and the green skims along the surface of the bowl... Hind claws scooping up the nearest herd-beast. Practiced movements shove grey claws through the spine with a quick snap, and then the green takes an easy landing, lengthy muzzle becoming tainted with the red of blood as she devours her kill. M'kir dismounts with amusement, getting hit by some of the blood as his dragon shakes the herdbeast around with a playful sense of violence. An eyebrow raised in the green's direction gets him a, Sorry, and a calmer sense of mind. However... M'kir isn't terribly calm himself, and begins to pace, blue eyes looking over at his green with an air of 'Hurry it up!' He can't help but grin however, as the dull pain that he felt in his own stomach dissapated... Blue swirling eyes met his with a bloody grin, and without waiting for his approval or not... Seleth is up in the air once more... and pouncing another bit of 'beast. M'kir sighed and with a shake of his head settled himself on the ground.. in a crouch of course, he'd no wish to be stuck in a stampede.

Food -- A'rak~Kadoth, 20:26:33 02/13/03 Thu
Kadoth spirals down in ever decreasing circles, his wings spread wide to absorb the impact of landing. A'rak leaps from his dragon, landing on his feet amidst the thunder of the bronze's reentry into the sky.
Kadoth's shadow falls over a large herdbeast before the animal is snatched up in his claws and pummeled against the ground. Hot blood splashes across the ground as the hungry young dragon feeds. Taking to the air again, he downs another one. A'rak is infused with a huge sense of pride, smiling wistfully as he watches his dragon feed. He's gotta be the best thing on Pern. Probably biggest, too.
Many bronzes are bigger. Kadoth replies quietly, still chowing down.
Only Quereth, I think. A noncommital mental shrug is given to him before Kadoth downs his final beast, the bronze hide flecked with blood and fur. Rising, the young man goes automatically for the harness, leaping up and giving an assuring pat to his partner.
"Alright, Perches it is, Kadoth. C'mon."
