Author: S'sha & Kylith ((Archallo))
Subject: [unexpected reunion]
In reply to: R'jari - Maeroth 's message, "..." on 21:16:58 03/28/05 Mon

The arrival of the young bronze is mostly ignored by the three dragons that form a triangle around the huddle of their lifemates, but Kylith's massive wedge-shaped snout angles so that one brilliant orb regards the greyed beast with the same aloof incuriosity with which she'd observed the brown and green also nearby. However, at a familiar shock of red hair seen as a riding helmet is removed, the queen stiffens slightly. S'sha, the great beast murmurs, surprise painting her normally calm tone. Turn around.

The goldrider does so, spinning on the ball of one booted foot with calculated wariness and balance, one hand on the hilt of her beltknife more out of habit than fear of necessity--her dragon was not afraid, merely... shocked. At the sight of a vaguely familiar face, she instinctively smiles and lets her hand fall to the curve of her waist, grey-blue eyes searching the young man's features for some clue that would bring rise his name from her muddled memory. Then, her eyes stray to his so-red hair, and another person's face superimposes over the boy's, and S'sha forgets to breathe for a moment.

"Ryuhajari...?" she whispers, eyes widening, and feels the wordless affirmation from her queen. Then, his words sink in--as does the fact that he Impressed a bronze dragon--and before she can really think, S'sha has taken the youth into her arms in an almost uncomfortably tight hug. He must be R'jari now, rider-mine, the gold murmurs in an atypically subdued mindvoice. Then, Kylith extends her 'touch' to link with Maeroth's young mind. Your name? she asks bluntly, too familiar with a much-younger form of his lifemate to bother introducing herself. And anyways, queens need no formalities when speaking to anyone less than a fellow queen.

After a long moment, S'sha releases R'jari from her embrace and holds him at arms-length, eyes glimmering with unshed tears of happiness--and of nostalgia. "I am no Weyrwoman now, Ryu--er, R'jari, isn't it." A soft, sad smile creases her lips as she recalls the latter part of his words. "And as for Ginny... I... I do not know where she and K'ith are." Neither her voice nor her gaze falters, however, and she doesn't look away as she adds, "But I know they live yet, R'jari. I know that in my very bones."

Almost as though to lift the solemn atmosphere that had fallen over the small gathering, blue Archallo zips over to brown Cargan and chirrups a lively greeting to an old acquaintance, completely ignoring his human's seriousness.
