Personally, I doubt that a VRAM SIMM, or lack thereof, is at fault. 575 and CC logic boards have 256k of VRAM built in--remember that most CC's and 575's shipped *without* VRAM in the slot.

I think that J78/J79 is the problem. There were only two versions of the CC analogue board, and there's a J78/J79 or its equivalent on both. If you truly don't have J78/J79, check out this page:

Click on Page 7, then on the link at the bottom for it you don't have J78/J79.
