Date Posted: 17:39:37 01/24/24 Wed In reply to: Kristina 's message, "QUESTION PERIOD" on 15:37:13 01/24/24 Wed I haven’t posted in nearly two months and have only posted a few times. Allow me to reintroduce myself, I’m Heather and I have three wonderful and rambunctious boys who are 5, 8, and 10. First, I have never ever heard of Thrills gum. I’m really curious now! 1) yes, I think their friends know. But, especially for my 10 YO, I don’t think they like talking about it and are embarrassed because some neighborhood kids and teammates are not Christian and don’t practice FTO. 2) Nope! I wished I did but we haven’t granted permission to other families. 3) only really close family like grandparents witness a spanking. 4) yes, both my husband and I were spanked. We do talk about it so they know they aren’t alone and it’s just part of childhood. 5) it’s very effective and fair. It is very intimate allowing close bonding. 6) we are a sports family and love the outdoors. All three boys play soccer and baseball. Plus we have season tickets for both our local MLB and MLS teams. We also love hiking and camping. The boys are involved in Trail Life too. They love Legos too! 7) in regards to discipline how do others practice FTO in public. I don’t mean necessarily spanking but things like maintaining eye contact, smiling, asking to appeal, and responding correctly when called. I’ve noticed some people look at us weird when they see FTO in use. Also anything like how do others deal with bedwetting, juggling activities and home, etc. 8) my husband and I were raised in a similar manner so there were no surprises. 9) I would say no. My boys do wear uniforms to school that consist of blue pants and a white polo shirt. Most of their wardrobe is The Children’s Place, Gap, Nike, Under Armor, Adidas, Oshkosh, and Abercrombie among others. 10) absolutely!! 11) we have taken classes through church on First Time Obedience. We follow Babywise and Childwise, and Ezzo, and Raising Godly Tomatoes. Our FTO rules are pretty simple: When their name is called they answer immediately with, “yes, mommy (or daddy, grandma, etc.) and come to my husband or I. The “yes, mommy” came from the Childwise website and I loved it. My 10 YO is starting to be a little embarrassed by it around friends and teammates, but does say it with no problem at home. When they come they must maintain eye contact and smile! They are to remain silent while the adult is talking. When they are given instructions then they must answer “yes ma’am” and obey immediately with a happy heart. The 10 YO is allowed to ask for an appeal because he has demonstrated he is FTO. He will say, “may I appeal?” and wait for a yes or no reply. If I say yes then he can state his opinion. The 8 & 5 are not allowed to appeal. The 8 & 5 YOs must ask permission for nearly everything. If they want to go to their room they need to ask. If they want a snack or drink then they need to ask. Pretty much everything, we keep them on a short leash. The 10 YO has more freedom but can have it taken away if we feel he’s not obedient. That’s pretty much it!!! [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
