Bruce Ross, VSPA LM 174,

Major Fox's "Air Base Defense in the Republic of Vietnam, 1961-1975," and is considered as the Bible for "Officially Reported and listed Air Base attacks in South Vietnam. It covers only VIETNAM. Major Fox acknowledged there were a great number of attacks that did not find their way into the archives. Here is what is listed:

On 1 JUL 1965, 0130 hours, Da Nang AB received 6 Rounds during a Sapper attack. 6 A/C were Destroyed, and 3 Damaged. 1 KIA, 3 WIA; 1 Viet Cong was captured (POW).

The 1 KIA was TSgt Terance Jensen, the first Air Policeman killed in the Vietnam War. His two daughters joined the Air Force and were Security Police.

If you go to the VSPA.com Homepage and scroll down to the Search Box, enter "Jensen" and a great deal of info and photos will display with links for you to check out. When I arrived at Da Nang, I was quickly placed on duty on the C-130 flightline, which was still smoldering. Later, I volunteered for TopDog45 and became an OJT Sentry Dog Handler. Blackie 129X trained me, then kept me out of trouble, mostly, on patrol.

Using the Search Box, I see you also were at Nha Trang, 5/65-66, and Phan Rang.

Any Photos of Da Nang (or the base attack), Nha Trang, or Phan Rang?

Don Poss
