You homeschool too? How totally cool!!! I've really wanted to share info on this here. :) It's been four years for me too, this coming year (starting back for the year next week, our main break is over Christmas with the summer and all) will be our fifth doing it. Do you know people still want to know when we're going to "send Daniel back to school", very big sigh.... I'm sick of explaining that this IS his school. He does just fine, I am proud of him and pleased with where he's got to. I was seriously worried about where he was headed after four years in the school system here (can't say I didn't give them a fair shot at it!). Some kids do fine and dandy at a conventional school, others learn the skill of "How to fall through the cracks while causing the least attention", that was becoming Daniel's speciality, so I pulled him out "just for a year" but it took the entire first year to "unteach" some ingrained stuff like reading skills. Then it took another to teach him to love books without having the hard work associated with actually reading them (I read to him A LOT!), then it took yet another to build his confidence and belief in his ability to start and finish a 'chapter' book by himself. Now I can't get him to switch his light off and he'll read to midnight and beyone if I let him get away with it. I know there's a lot of other stuff to consider and we do do it BUT my motto is "If you can't read you're up the creek without a paddle". Not going to happen to any child of mine if I can help it!!!!! So that's it in a nutshell from our end, how about you? And do you want to share links? And how many children and what ages are they???? So many questions *G*.... how wonderful, I hope we can offer each other support, advice and the occassional cyber hug when things get a little rough!
