Lisa, I have not had much surgery to date [and I thank God for that every day] but my Mom has. After each surgery she has learned to have her hormone levels checked with a full blood workup. Pred could wildly affect how/what your various organs/glands are producing. In fact what you are describing sounds a lot like post-partum depression which is caused by wild fluctations of hormones after birth. You had a different cause but it could have the same result. Especially with all the different drugs going in at once. Big [extra gentle] hugs and happy thoughts.
