How many times he had all but danced his way up these many flights of stairs, so very much in love with live! Would the familiar echoes of the stairwell notice the lacklustre drag of his heavenward progress now? Growing guilt had a way of eating the spirit right out of a lively stride and the vampire reached his top-floor domain with a heart so heavy that he was certain someone might accidently step on it on the ground floor. Well, after the abuse he had put it through, one more kick and a little gravel-burn wouldn't hurt much.
It was dead anyway, right?
But dead did not mean numb, as any of his kind would understand. At the moment, however, there was only one whose understanding he craved. And if he believed in such superstitions, he would have crossed his fingers that he would find her home as he passed through his door and closed the world out of his home.
Was GiGi home? Had she still the endurance to put up with her fickle, flighty, and hopelessly flawed maker? The thought bringing a tight pain to his chest, his determination failed him and his shoulders no longer carried themselves proud and princely as he traveled the hallway to the far door, carelessly bumping the door open and shuffling into his lair. Could the comforts of the mountains of pillows and warm downy blankets smother a heart too shameful to curse this world any longer? Reaching the bed with a heavy sigh, he kept his cool through ridding himself of one shoe but with the second, something broke lose and he slung the offending footward against the far wall with a thunderous crash in the otherwise silent apartment before wilting onto his bed and rolling in angry misery to the center to nestle his back into the softness and glare hellish hatred to the ceiling overhead. But as the moments passed, he collected himself slowly, breathing a deep sigh as he surrendered his temper though his thoughts were far from peaceful. Only violent in their mad jumble that never slowed down. And only when he had gathered himself back together enough to draw himself out of the sudden abyss of self-pity did he send a flicker of awareness through to the far reaches of the apartment, seeking sense of his GiGI.
