well mav explained what an hvc is so I'll skip that. Becoming a better player... play play and then....play more. Ok now that I have the standard answer out lets get to some actual tips. These are just general tips and in no particular order. Alot of these tips are for tourny style play but they work just as well for rec play.

1. Try to work on one particular skill evertime you play. Really concentrate on that skill and focus on getting better in that particular area. Take for example snap shooting. Play one day but on that day really focus on snap shooting try and conentrate on it. see what works what doesnt work. this goes for many skills. working a bunker, snap shooting, stealth, communication, movement, etc...

2. I once heard this "If your not shooting, moving, or communicating, you're not playing paintball" live by those words.

2. Drills - this is something that goes back to every sport I've played. Drills always make you better. They might be boring but they are very neccesarry. Every pro team has a variety of drills that they practice. You need to get to the point where you can react instantly to certain situations and not have to think about them. Here are a few drills.

Pie tins - Hang up a a few pie tins. set yourself up behind a bunker and practice snap shooting. You can also practice working a bunker.

tennis ball - put a tennis ball at the end of a string and step about 30ft. away. Start by holding your marker facing the ground. You also look down. Bring your head and your marker up from looking at the ground to looking at the ball. crystalize your shot in your head and let one rip. look down and point your marker down again. then do it again. Look up and bring your marker up. crystalize and shoot. keep doing this and you'll noitce that you can aquire your shot much quicker. the military does this they call it "site aquasition". beleive me it really works.

chicken - get a buddy and set yourselves up facing each other in opposite bunkers close to each other. now play some chicken. Object of the game is not to move but to concentrate on your apponent. post up on your bunker and make quick in and out moves from all sides of the bunker. goggle him before he gogs you.

mirror - this is a quick one. just get a mirror and practice your stance. place the mirror so that you can see how much of your body is being exposed everytime you poke out the side of a bunker. I do this at home with a door mirror. I just place it down the hall and use another wall/corner as a bunker. You'd be surprised how much of your body is visible when your paying attention.

2 on 1 - pretty easy just play some 2 on 1 games. this lets you practice a very common situation. practice both sides.

Hopper ball - go out and play with just one hopper full (200rds) this will really make you concentrate on each shot. not just spray and pray.

3 shots then move - play a game where everyone has to move from thier current bunker after every three shots. this forces you to concentrate on movement.

4 Play the tape/line - This is a good place for people to learn. playing the tape is stategicaly safer. you don't have to worry about shots coming from off the field.

5 PLAY PLAY PLAY AND PLAY MORE>>>>>>>>

ok this is just some of the things I could come up with. There are many more drills and tips but I'm hungry. hope this gets you started.....
