He missed her navigation of the lower warehouse floor, the climb up the steps, and the walk down the hallway. What he didn’t miss, on the other hand, was the fingertips on the door of his and Alicia’s apartment. He didn’t miss the footsteps, no matter how slight, on the old wooden floors. He didn’t miss the sound of the fabric of his and Alicia bed being stressed over the mattress. So, from his study, he slowly rose and walked down the hallway. It wasn’t fear that drove him to the strange entrance, it was the curiosity. He made it to his bedroom door in time to see her rake in the smells of his bedroom play time.
