Subject: Missing iPods from Dunleavy Shaffer practice rooms. Any knowledge? | |
Author: Theresa Shaffer Wilkinson TCRG [Edit] |
Date Posted: 21:23:11 11/25/09 Wed We are missing 2 iPods from our practice room. They were last seen late Saturday night, after awards and before the Worlds Party. The practice rooms were locked each night. We left the iPods out accidentally (our mistake) after awards celebrations, and when we returned Sunday a.m. they were gone. Anyone's conscience returning with Thanksgiving? Or did you see someone poking around in a practice room late Saturday? Please feel free to email me. I was inspired to post after hearing about the found Forbes makeup bag. Congrats to all on a wonderful weekend, and Happy Thanksgiving! [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

| Subject: Awards | |
Author: mom [Edit] |
Date Posted: 16:44:20 11/24/09 Tue Okay I would love the committee to see a calm discussion of awards. I appreciate every minute of time they devoted to planning and organizing this event but I hope a few improvements are made for next year. 1) no seating or standing should be allowed on the judges table directly in front of the main stage. It was impossible to see anything if you were behind this platform. 2) Need more seating for awards. I saw kids tripping in crowded aisles. Unless you had a seat for teams it was extremely stressful to try to find a seat for awards. you could move chairs after they moved the wall but that was a crazy messs of chairs clanging and people rushing/pushing to get to the best spot. then all you saw was the back of girls standing on stage. 3) sound. Let's face it, we can be a crazy loud crowd, it was very hard to hear the announcer even when it was quiet. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 07:40:00 11/23/09 Mon Thanks for helping to organize a nice Oireachtas! I'm not sure if you are aware of this or not - or if this happened in more than one competition - but set marks were not listed on the marks sheets handed out for Competition #7 (Girls 13-14). My daughter and I would really like to see her scores, and her teacher would as well. Could results be sent to the placers and/or their teachers? Any assistance with this problem would be much appreciated. People are already questioning the results of this competition because the placements after 2 rounds did not match up with the final results called. Thank you! [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

| Subject: Wanted to share this from the Main Irish Dance Board "To all the dancers who placed second" | |
Author: Beautifully written [Edit] |
Date Posted: 16:30:45 11/24/09 Tue To all the dancers who placed second. I've been in the dance world a very long time, and coming in second is tough. Working so hard all year long. Knowing who your competition is. Perfecting each little detail until you can't possibly know what else to change. Suffering through long hours of practice, broken shoes, broken blisters, broken toes. Trying to judge if you have done enough to get that Top Box. And you dance your best and awards come. They're calling names and before you know it, its just you and that one other dancer, and you have to wait. And they make you wait AGES! Your heart is beating so loud you can hardly hear the announcer. Your body is flooded with adrenaline, anticipating and trying to prepare yourself IF your name is called next. Because if YOUR name is called next, the dancer next to you is the winner. And you get rushed up onto a box, and you're expected to be pleased as peaches that you just lost. Sure, second is a GREAT placement. Its FANTASTIC. But in this situation, its too emotional to be 100% happy. You're flooded by waves of disappointment and doubt- wondering what THAT dancer did better. So to those parents who think that crying on stage, whether the dancer got 2nd, 12th when they WQ'd 11, 32nd when 31 get to go to NANs, or even if the dancer placed lower than the previous year... to US- to DANCERS- that's disappointing and hard to deal with. And we can't always just "suck it up" or hold our heads high, waiting until we're alone. To a dancer who sweats and bleeds for perfection, any time we don't reach our goals we're mad enough to cry. Mad at ourselves, mad at the world. And at the O- the MOST important weekend of the year for a competitive dancer- if you don't reach your goal, if you wait, and hold your breath, and cross your fingers and squeeze your friend's hand so tight you lose the feeling in your fingers... you're going to have an emotional reaction. No matter how old you are. I applaud all the dancers in the Top 5 who fight to get on those boxes. And Especially those dancers who place 2nd. I I just wanted to give the parents on this board something to think about regarding those dancers they thought were unsportsmanlike. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
