Liz,
My sister started fully-bared over-the-lap hand spankings for my nephew just before his fifth birthday. Before that it was just a few impromptu swats over clothing.
We live only a few miles apart, and are at each other’s homes often. I saw her give him quite a few of those bare spankings but was not called on to spank him myself. Then, when he was seven years old, I watched him one evening at their home, while she went out with friends. When she returned, I commented on his less-than-stellar behavior … and she took me up to his room, got him out of bed and removed his pjs, and had me spank him.
Since then (he’s now 13) I’ve spanked him quite a few times here at my place, and she now brings him to me when she feels he needs the strap.
She continues to spank him fully bare, and I follow her direction and do the same, both for hand spankings and for the strap.
He did go through a phase of excessive wriggling and kicking during hand spankings around age 8-9, but I was always able to “latch” his legs down with my leg, and keep him still enough to complete the discipline session. I do recall telling him a few times that, the more he kicked, the longer I was going to spank.
I wish you all possible success as you raise your children with spanking discipline.
