I try to avoid spanking if at all possible, preferring to use chores, writing lines, confiscating toys and timeouts, instead. However, it's obvious that spanking is needed, if for no other reason than to enforce the other punishments when my kids don't comply with them. Generally, I spank over their pyjamas or their underwear, but for really serious misbehavior I give them what I call a 'pansdsowner' and spank their bare bottoms. This happens infrequently - say once a month. I use my hand to spank, but always make it worthwhile, a minimum of twenty slaps, progressing to forty as they mature. I like to reserve it as the ultimate punishment, and it always seems to do the trick. Just the threat of one when there's a hint of non-compliance usually results in them hastily changing their minds. My youngest son, who will turn five in March earned himself his first formal, bare bottom spanking this evening. He refused to obey my direction to tidy up his toys. I gave him two warnings, and then decided that it was time he learned his lesson. PJs down to his ankles, exposing his bare bottom, I placed him over my knee and gave him and gave him twenty hard slaps, slowly and methodically, allowing him to register each slap before applying the next. It took around a minute, maybe a little longer. It isn't easy, slapping an already reddened little bottom, when he's crying, begging and wriggling. But I feel it's necessary so that he understands real punishment is available. Hubby thought I was a bit mean, given his age. How do you spank? When did you start?
