Henry is pretty good about appealing and we talked to him about not abusing the privilege when we granted it to him.

Nick is finishing his first week in diapers. He’s been doing great and hasn’t needed any additional punishment. Just to clarify we never punish for bedwetting and we don’t really even punish for daytime accidents. We punish for lying, not taking responsibility, disobedience, etc.

Punishments work differently for each kid. Some things work better than others.

Henry does great with maintenance and preventative spankings. I discovered this last year before a MLB game. I gave him a preventative spanking before leaving. His butt must have been on fire, but wow he was well behaved the whole time. In the last year we’ve done may 5 or 6 maintenance spankings before trips, outings, or bedtime. The last one was before going to dinner with a family from our church. He did great! He held an adults hand, followed all of the FTO rule (said “yes mommy”, eye contact, smiled), and didn’t speak unless spoken to.

Nick does great with diaper discipline. The constant reminder from the thickness, the uncomfortable feeling (especially when it’s hot outside), the loss of privacy (he is changed in front of others sometimes), changing time is like multiple timeouts per day (he hates having to stop what he’s doing for a change), and the fear of being caught by a friend wearing a diaper. Nick in a diaper is great, we’ve even kicked around the idea of leaving him them all summer.

Charlie needs constant immediate punishment. Unlike his brothers he can’t wait. That means lots of spankings, warmups, and timeouts throughout the day. We also do some diaper discipline with him too. But he’s learning. My husband took Henry and Nick out hiking yesterday. So I kept Charlie bare bottom all day for easy access for quick corrections.

Can you tell me more about your process? You said you have done some diaper discipline too, can you share more?
