it would have been just another Sci Fi show wouldn't it? CC has also claimed the show was always just about the scary stories. But that was nothing new. Back since the days of the Twilight Zone we've had TV shows of this type. And many of the more recent tv shows that have been tried like the new Twilight Zone and Amazing Stories have all bombed. That's because, along with the stories we need rich characters to care about.

Recently there has been talk about why Friends has had a resurgence and one theory attribuites it to post 9/11 feelings and people wanting the comfortability of characters they know and like. That's why movie sequels are such a booming business.

We wanted the scary stories but we also wanted Mulder and Scully along with us for the ride.
It is rare that I've come across characters such as these that I've cared so deeply about.
